I wasn't sure whether or not to put this in the "news" section. I've done some research on the herb stevia as a sugar replacement for vegans and total vegetarians. It is all natural and isn't processed, so it uses no bone char in its refinement, like 50% of cane sugar refineries in the U.S. do. It sounded wonderful, so I read up on it, and here is a summary of my research and a petition to get it approved if you're interested:

I also use stevia. Not all brands taste the same, so I had to do some experimenting to find my favorite. The first one I tried tasted strong of black licorice (which I HATE), but the one I now use is mild.

I haven't tried baking with it but I'm trying to cut down on my sugar so might just give it a go soon. I found these: (these are amazon links to cookbooks) http://www.amazon.com/Baking-Stevia-.../dp/0965607305 and http://www.amazon.com/Baking-Stevia-.../dp/0965607313 but if you wanted to give it a go first, scroll down this page: http://chetday.com/stevia.html and this is meant for the particular brand name but you could probably use any stevia: http://www.steviva.com/recipes/

Let us know how you go if you try it
