About the interviews

VeggieBoard interviews are a way for us to get to know each other better. It is a way to acknowledge just how wonderfully varied a community we are.

Every few days or so, a new interview will start and the old interview will be locked.

Every VeggieBoard member is allowed to ask the amount of questions specified by the interviewee in the answers to the default questions. If they discover that they chose too high or low a limit, they may change their choice.

Try to keep this thread about the person being interviewed. If you want to comment about things you discover you have in common or just elaborate on a response, pm them and make a new friend or start a new thread about it. This is intended to be a friendly thread, so please dont ask anything in a purposeful attempt to get a heated debate. Of course, nobody is required to answer a question that they do not want to.

The current person being interviewed will choose the next person. They need to first pm them and ask if they are interested, then pm me to let me know. It is preferred that you pick someone that you do not know very well as the purpose of this thread is to get to know new people.

Also, please keep in mind that any answers you post are viewable to complete strangers. There is some risk in that. Again, all questions are optional.

How did you find VB?

I used to post on the vegan outreach boards starting in about early 2001? I remember the morning I went to log on and it said that the boards were gone. *poof* like that. It said, we should go start a yahoo group or something. Rrr. But I checked back later in the day and it gave a link to veggie boards, and we all came in and took over, sort of like the vw people did!

what is your favorite thing to do over the summer?

I have had wonderful summers in the past. in my teens, my friends and I would bike around all damn day, often including trips to the thrift store to buy freaky clothes and ugly old jewelry.

After college, I lived in Oberlin in a big house with 8 other people. Oberlin is great in the summer. Quaint rural college town gone empty. I would sit out on the porch and read, drink and watch movies at night with a bunch of housemates in the sweltering living room in which all the windows were painted shut save one with no screen, held up by an old screw driver. I had this boy Jon, he was my holy grail, and through my constant attempts to woo him, we ended up just being friends. My having a car to drive him around in didn't hurt the friendship, either. He really took advantage of that. We went to see Santana at Blossom, went to various parks (one year got to see the return of the 17 year cicadas), it was great. He was really into botany and told me about all the plants. My housemates and I went to the Lorain county fair two summers in a row and watched the demolition derby (but we always seemed to miss the combine derby. People told me it was pretty slow anyway)

Now I am just grateful to be able to drive with no snow on the roads. But my two favorite things are to watch storms and eat fruit.

Which do you prefer: pirates or ninjas?

Pirates, though I guess they are usually more evil.

What if anything, do you think of porcupines?

They seem cute. this guy used to come to my elementary school every year to show us animals, and he always brought a porcupine. BTW- are these more random questions part of some psych test, like from that book kokology?

What would you say is your pet peeve?

I have so many. Yeah, I am anal about some stuff. Dangerous drivers. Dangerous behavior in general. Littering is a close second.

What would you consider the greatest obstacle that you've had to overcome?

Chronic depression. It never really goes away. But I have learned alot about myself and how to keep myself going.

Two other honorable mentions- getting over my fears of highway driving which had me pretty paralyzed for a while, and getting through my senior year of college. The Saturday night before classes began, (September 1, 1996) the boyfriend I had just moved in with suddenly (with really no major warning) broke up with me after 2 years of a very, very, close relationship, and with a really lame reason. Some other things also happened that made that difficult, I'll be glad to air my dirty laundry later if anyone wants to know.

what are you studying in school and what is your eventual career path you wish to take, if indeed you know what that is?Talk about a timely question. I have to make a decision soon on what to pursue after I finish my masters of bioethics at the end of next summer. I had been planning on trying to enter the PhD track. But law school has always been tempting me for as long as I can remember. I am able to do either while at my current job for free (employee benefits
)

What do find harder, your vegetarianism or your atheism? Why?

I was raised atheist, so it wasn't until I got older that I even realized how it made me different. I was told as a child to try not to talk about it bc it might scare people (which it did on some occasions). I do not live around a lot of fundies or other evangelical types, so it doesn't come up. But I don't like people assuming I am Christian (which probably happens to others, too, not just atheists), but I don't hold it against people. But it does bother me that if there were some international atheist symbol I could wear around my neck it would be taken by many as a sign that I am trying to "start something" or rock the boat, despite that I may just simply want to express my pride for my personal philosophy as so many others do.

And everyone here knows what problems go along with the vegetarianism. I say that vegetarianism has a negative effect more often as an inconvenience over food and frustration from people wanting to argue. But I feel atheism effects me in a more personal way, in that I am more fearful telling a superior or other important person I am atheist. That atheism is literally equated with evil by so many is a little scary.

Who do you think would win in an arm wrestling contest between Bill Cosby and Gary Coleman?Gary Coleman- Bill would let him win, or else he'd have a sudden heart attack from all those jello pudding pops. (They don't make those anymore, do they? I really liked them. Dairy, anyway.)
