VeggieBoard interviews are a way for us to get to know each other better. It is a way to acknowledge just how wonderfully varied a community we are.

Every few days or so, a new interview will start and the old interview will be locked.

Every VeggieBoard member is allowed to ask ONLY ONE question per day. Remember that ONLY ONE. Try to keep this thread about the person being interviewed. If you want to comment about things you discover you have in common or just elaborate on a response, pm them and make a new friend or start a new thread about it. This is intended to be a friendly thread, so please dont ask anything in a purposeful attempt to get a heated debate. Of course, nobody is required to answer a question that they do not want to.

The current person being interviewed will choose the next person. They need to first pm them and ask if they are interested, then pm me to let me know. It is preferred that you pick someone that you do not know very well as the purpose of this thread is to get to know new people.

Also, please keep in mind that any answers you post are viewable to complete strangers. There is some risk in that. Again, all questions are optional.

Given that you're a musician... what's your favorite musical instrument, including model and year (if applicable)?

Gender: Male

Age: 27

Birthday: Yes. I mean, er, March 01, 19-seventy-six. Natal chart

Location: Delaware (the cross between "delete" and "beware".

Dietary Path: According to my morals.

Picture

I'm so hungry and hungover right now, not to mention smelling like the dank pit I drank myself last night. How's that for an intro? No? Okay, fine. The brief timeline of one Max Power:

Born in the small village of Maypen, Jamaica, child of a mixed-race marraige and raised in Pitsea, Essex County, England until the age of 10. Moved to Washington D.C. and went to the Univ. of MD for 3 years but dropped out to be a web designer and to eventually move to LA to try my hand at writing. I was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma (cancer) the week before I was to move. After spending the next year or so in treatment, I found myself in the lucrative field of information security. I recently moved to Delaware, where I worked in that field until last August when I was layed off.

After coming to grips with the fact that I neither wanted nor enjoyed the corporate life, however lucrative it may have been, I decided it was time to take back my life, which by my accord, is the pragmatic pursuit of the fulfillment of a telos in the face of a hedonistic sense of self-enjoyment. I now attend Univ. of DE, majoring in Philosophy with minors in Religious Studies and Psychology. I plan to go to grad school next year to study counseling psychology.

Now, off to the store. Will start answering upon my return

I know it's probably emotional for you to talk about, but I must ask for personal reasons. If you had to choose just one thing or idea that you held onto that you credit mainly for your making it through treatment, what would that be? Thank you.

SystmDwnGrl: Yayaya its Max. It's Max... I have a crush on Max...um let's see....who is your favorite soccer player... and who do you have a crush on(on VB)???

The answer to both: YOU!!!

I was a big fan of Patrick Kluivert around the time of the '98 World Cup, but his club play has let me down. I like a lot of the US's young talent like Convey, Beasley, Howard (going to Man U!) and Donovan. When Donovan and Beasley start playing in Europe, the US will likely start the last leg towards soccer dominance, to say nothing of the 14-year old phenom Freddy Adu. Have you seen this kid??? You watch him for 90 minutes and tell me he can't be the world's next Pele.

I have a lot of respect for Teddy Sheringhan coming back to Spurs, but he's not the most interesting player to watch. My favorite club player is probably Ronaldo at Real Madrid. I think, on a national level, if it's not Tim Howard, it would have been Michael Owen is my favorite (as long as he gets England their long overdue WC trophy!!!)

As for the crush (besides you, of course) my first VB crush is still my... er... crushiest? And that's Funkified, the crunchy little geek she is

Robert: Given that you're a musician... what's your favorite musical instrument, including model and year (if applicable)?

I was a drummer for most of my active musical days, and my favorite drums was the vintage gold sparkle Ludwig jazz set I had for about a year. I sold it to a dealer in Japan. I've sold almost all my gear, but the three things I'll definitely keep because they are my fave's over all else: The two guitars my dad bought me, one a "Nagoya" acoustic that he bought from a co-worker for $25 and the other a piece-of-sh*t "Bradley" Les Paul rip-off that was my first guitar. Then, of course, there's my turntables.

Of the instruments I loved yet never owned, there was a 12-string Rickenbacher hollow-body electric - from '56 I think. The kind with the second set of tuning pegs mounted facing the back of the head so it looks like a 6-string. Beautiful piece of art.

Tame: How did you become so funky for a white guy?

Well, after you spend all night at the bars and don't take a shower the next day you tend to get pretty funky, but I don't see what that has to do with being white

(I'm only half white, anyways)

bethanie: How is dating going for you these days? (I've missed the 'are all women crazy' thread)

Oh man. All women really are crazy. Of the two main crazy women in my life recently, only one still exists, at least according to me. The one caused quite a scene a few weeks ago. I won't go into it. It involved both of them. So, I haven't been dating lately, but I have been involved in... let's say "less commitmental" engagements (what's with the making up words??)

MsRuthieB: I know it's probably emotional for you to talk about, but I must ask for personal reasons. If you had to choose just one thing or idea that you held onto that you credit mainly for your making it through treatment, what would that be? Thank you.

"Personal reasons" ?? Uh-oh

One word: Drugs. Not just the vile chemicals that they injected every week that almost certainly saved my life, and not just the pain medications (morphine) that made it possible to not have to concentrate of the pain (although it made it hard to concentrate in general) but also the marijuana. Neigh-sayers can suck a nut, marijuana made it possible to eat, and eating the way I ate (very much a planned dietary system that I'd gladly share) made a WORLD of difference. For the first few treatments, I didn't do anything different - no herb, no alternate diet - and the 4 or 5 days after a treatment would be hell on earth. I could barely walk for much of the day after treatment. But by the time the end of treatment came around, the effects of the treatments lasted brely a few hours - I'd take a nap after treament, and be back to normal when I woke up.

The year after treatment was scarier than the 8 months of treatment. On the one hand, things went very well with the treatment. On the other hand, if I relapsed, it would be much worse. However, I've never been so in awe of how inexplicably rich life can be as when I was during and after treatment. I did the most amazingly stupid sh*t ever in that time period. Why not? What's going to happen? What, I'm gonna die? Well, that may just happen anyways. And that's as true today, in full health, as it was then. What, I'm gonna get in trouble with the law if I do this? My girlfriend will leave me if I do that? Now, these things are worse than dying!

And that feeling - the feeling that what I can do in life is so much more important that the presupposed life within which I live- that is how I came to terms with my treatment. That measured and calculated hedonistic attitude still gets me through the hardest days.

And while I'm on the topic, my biggest fear is that I'll one day lose interest in life. I've often thought I had, but I'm still here, so clearly I didn't. What could be so horrible and overwhelming that the infinite possibility of the next moment isn't worth living for?

The ideal kind! That's a pat answer, of course, but nonethless true. If I've learned anything from my relationships (and I arguably have not) it's that any prejudice I have towards or away some aspect of a relationship is probably wrong, or at least incomplete. The real thing is always something more than the thought of a thing is. So anything I say I want, I know that an ideal relationship may in fact lack, so I have to be willing to let go of any prejudice to the degree that the only attribute of a relationship that I wouldn't give up is a feeling of idealness.

That being said, I expect that I would not find an omnivore ideal. Nor someone who is significantly different than I in the areas where I consider my personality most defined. Intellectual interest, fun and adventurous, laid back, and serious about their life goals. Those are probably the main tenets of a personality that I would find attractive.

Plus, being 5'10" with a nice singing voice, short brown hair, gray or blue eyes, and physcially-fit would be nice

Do you believe in life after death? If so, what do you believe? I was gonna ask you why you're so damn hot, but, I suppose you don't know the answer to that, it just comes naturally to you
