Hey! Has anyone ever done a spartan, warrior dash, tougher mudder type race? I am def going to do one now and I am SO excited.
I am going to do the tri state spartan race in June 2012 (I have a marathon in October, a nine miler in November, a new years eve 5k, the Feb freeze, a bunch of spring races I always do.... you get the point). I have been reading up on the training and its awesome. I did my first workout yesterday and I love how it combines a BRUTAL strength training workout while tacking on the miles.
I found LOTS of training ideas and put together a few of my own workouts. I had an easy run already planned for today so I added the strength element and OMG! Yes! My sandbag and I are going to be inseparable

Tomorrow is a rest day, I know they are as important as training day but I am sad LOL.

Oh and I was looking for an idea.......... I am pretty sure of myself with all obstacles....except the dreaded wall I know, pathetic. I am afraid of it for some reason. I know if I can get a leg up I can easily get over it (its a mental block) BUT I need to practice this the MOST. How can I do this? I am ready to build an 8ft wall in my backyard.......

Anyone in the tri state want to make a team??????

I'm doing the upcoming Tough Mudder in Montreal, but no official date is set. Schedule permitting, I'd be all over the tri-state Spartan race. I love this type of event. I get a bit bored with just running, but the long distance obstacle type events add a bit of extra spice.

My fitness plan in general is mostly a combination of calisthenics and ring training with a weighted vest and various interval routines, with endurance being the main goal. In preparation for these events, I'll probably add a bit more running than usual. For the wall, I'd suggest starting with pullups. Or better yet incorporate pullups into other routines. I'm a big fan of using burpees to add an endurance element to resistance training, and one option is to do burpees next to a pullup bar or gymnastic rings so that as you rise from the burpee, instead of simply standing or going into a jump, you can jump up, grab the bar, do a pullup, then drop and repeat.

That would be neat if we could make a sizable vegetarian group lol. I'll probably end up doing the one in Montreal with a Crossfit group or something.

Big fan of the sandbag as well. I like to throw it down and beat on it a bit between reps lol. Another useful tool, which is easier to come across than you might think (many rural mechanics would rather give them away than pay to dispose of them), is a large tire, like a tractor tire or something. Flip it over, grab a sledgehammer and thwack it a few times, run to the other side, flip it over again, etc.

I'm still in the "developmental" stage of my fitness journey. I'm still working on weight loss and developing upper body strength.

Too bad it's the one in Cali. If you were over here we could have 3, which is officially (by my own arbitrary standards) a group
