Its a praying mantis. The first time I saw him, I actually woke my daughter up so that she could get a look. I haven't seen one of these bugs in a while. I thought he/she was just a visitor. However, the past few days as I've watered, it jumps out of the center of the pot (I presume to avoid a shower), up onto one of the outer leaves. I have a very large pot, full of a purple flowering basil...which is very pretty, and a few nasturtiums. It's actually kind of neat.<br><br><br><br>

I only see a few of them each year though sadly thier numbers seem to be declining.<br><br><br><br>
They seem to like my oleander bushes, I WISH they liked my basil because it might keeps the little moth and butterfly larva away!
