I love asking this question to people. So now I want to know something new that you have just learned today. Something you didn't know before and by learning it you had a "wow" moment.

I'll start off...

Today I learned that St. Valentine is the patronage saint of not only love, happy marriages and couples but also for bee keepers, travellers, fainting and the PLAGUE. hummmmm....love and the plague. Interesting combo.

I had more of a duh moment today. I realized that an allele is a variant of the same gene because our chromosomes come in pairs...duh. It never really registered until today.

I've found that very few people know the word 'allele' even if they understand the concept, eg. designer snake breeders. (Motley and striped genes in Corns)

I learned that no matter how much I learn, I will never know it all!

Specifically, I learned that the Grant rollover money is 'fake' money...you can't spend it unless the actual Grant has the money in their budget....

I learned that SPSS and Excel have different ways of sorting data, and if you use the SPSS method in Excel, you mess up your ENTIRE data file.

I've learned I can't play any shows downloaded from iTunes (mv4 format) with any other player besides quicktime. Drat! quicktime uses too much of my CPU usage!

I learned that one of my co-workers who I thought was just an impossible SOB isn't really a bad guy after all. He just has a lot going on in his life, but is really a decent person.

I learned that short stories can be quite interesting and entertaining. I just read Cathedral by Raymond Carver (1938-1988).

One of my favorite stories.

I learned the 4-feet-in-diameter rolls of newsprint my newspaper uses cost $350 apiece. 8,000 copies of the daily paper fit on it, and we use four every day. Not to mention the two other daily papers and several weeklies that run off our press.
