This is so horrible. It is unbelievable, but is unfortunately true.

A cat was brought into the Abilene Texas Petsmart for a grooming on July 27. The groomer DROWNED the cat. Do you know how many squirts of water in the nose it would take to drown a cat???

The autopsy revealed that her lungs were filled with water.

The groomer still works there.

The groomer still "works with" animals in the store "Where pets are family".

I spoke with the owner today. Her last name starts with "R". The information is verifiable through KTXS TV 12 Rescue the Animals. I spoke with the man who does the TV segments. He said that there was no question that it happened, but the problem was getting someone to speak out about what they know.

How can people be so cruel?

This person still works there???

I am completely outraged at hearing that. Makes me want to drive out to Abilene for a protest.

ETA: I've heard some pretty horrible things about Petco & it's policies to begin with. Hearing that they would keep this employee on staff rather than fire them makes the rest of it seem all the more believable.

My grandmother's dog was almost killed by a PetSmart trainee groomer. I guess the dog was moving around and the razor cut into an artery and cut off part of his ear. He lived, but it's pretty scary. That's much more excusable than what happened to that cat, though. That's crazy.

That's horrible!! And unexcusable for Petsmart to retain her as an employee.

I could somewhat see how the accident with the dog and the clippers could take place in the hands of an inexperienced groomer, but how do you "accidently" drown a cat?

Unfortunate accidents can happen, but this doesn't seem like an accident to me......or else this person is a real and doesn't have a clue as to what their doing.

Sounds like this person doesn't need to be working with animals. And if that were my cat, I would be raising 3 kinds of h***. I would not walk away from that. Oh, no, no, no! That Petsmart would get to know me real well!

I was a groomer for many many moons. Yes, things happen. You have sharp tools around bouncy, dancing, twisting, biting and just plain scared animals. But drowning a cat....uhhh...grounds for not working again.

Most groomers wont touch cats with a 10 foot pole these days. And with good reason. They are a tough days work. You definitly have to have "the knack". Any shop I worked in I was always the cat "specialist". I cant even fathom drowning an animal. I'm trying to visualize what might have happened that would shine a light even a bit on how that could have happened. I cant do it.

On a personal note, if I had somehow managed to kill an animal while grooming it, I would have hung up my clippers and signed myself into a psychiatric ward for a few years. That is something that should make you take a good hard look at your career choice and take a job doing something around inanimate objects.

On a professional note, PetSmart needs to boot her A** out.

I'm not a groomer, but when I wash my dog/cats, I dont get their faces near the water. I wash their faces with a wet cloth. This story insinuates they "blast" them with water. I certainly wouldn't hold a shower spray in the face of a human child, or even an adult, neither would I do it in the face of an animal.

I have a fat cat that needs grooming regularly. I learned to do it myself. I, too, would never get her face wet. She hates it and would go nuts if I do. It's not that hard to keep her face dry even by me who is not a professional groomer. So I can't imagine how the cat got drowned. The employee must be really reckless.

Poor kittie.
