So I accidentally bought cereal with honey...

I was eating it, and when I buy stuff that I have never had before, I always double check the ingredients to make sure they are vegan. For some reason, this slipped. Since the box is open, and I cannot return it, I have decided to finish it. I think giving it away is pointless, since nobody will want a half eaten box of cereal, and I hate throwing out food. Agree or Disagree?

Agree, it would be silly to throw it out if the alternative is it actually being used for a good purpose, such as feeding you. I've slipped up before too with honey in stuff, I just finished it and made sure I didn't buy it again.
You're going to make many more mistakes like this. Despite carefully reading the ingredients, you are going to purchase items with ingredients you do not want.

It's nice to have a friend, family member, neighbor, or co-worker you can give this stuff to. I'm sure there's even someone you know who would be willing to accept an opened and already half consumed product... I'm always after free food myself.

The easiest solution, opened product or not, is to just leave it in the company breakroom with a little sign that says "FREE." It'll be gone in less than ten minutes.

Edited to add:
Eating the item is totally up to you. Each person has a "line" recarding what's okay and what's not. I think the wrong has already been done by purchasing it. Personally, I'd go ahead and eat an item that had very tiny amounts of money or trace dairy... But I just couldn't bring myself to eat something I discovered was flavored with lard, bacon, or was composed of mostly egg or dairy. I'd have to give that away or feed it to the dogs...yuck!

I wouldn't eat it cos I can afford to buy another box without it. I'd give it to a friend or my mum or someone. If you;re stuck for cash, eat it. No biggie.

Eating it is better than tossing it. However, I would give it away. I'm sure you could find someone to give it to, if you don't want to eat it. When I became vegan, I gave all my opened and unopened non veg*n food to the homeless man who lived by my apartment. He was stoked. A while back, I accidentally bought a granola bar with honey. I ate half of it before I realized it wasn't vegan. The kid who sat next to me in English class was thrilled to eat the rest. People like free food.
You can still return it...

I've worked at a grocery store and people return everything after it's open or mostly eaten. Just tell them that you don't like it and want a different kind.
If I did this, and it wasn't something my omni husband would eat, I'd eat it. I don't work currently, and most of my friends and family live relatively far away, so leaving it in the breakroom or giving it to someone else isn't really an easy option.

I do agree with Hazelnut that I wouldn't eat anything flavored with meat products, or composed of mostly egg or dairy, but then again, the likelihood of me accidentally purchasing an item like that would be extremely low.

They'll just throw it away, though. I don't really think that's a viable option when purchasing the item was your mistake.

We play a quite a few practical jokes on each other at work, so leaving it in the break room is bound to get someone suspiciously saying "ok, what have you done to it!"

You should eat it, but be careful of spontaneous combustion.

I have to agree.
Just because people do it, that doesn't make it okay.

I've only returned "used" food to the grocery store three times. Twice the item was WAY expired, and I didn't realize it until I started eating it. And once I'd bought 10lbs of apples for a recipe, only to discover that while they were pretty on the outside, they were all brown and rotten on the inside.
I've never returned food. I'm too lazy.
Even if it's unopened, I'm not sure they could resell it. I only return food if it was expired at the time of purchase, bad, or defective.

Once I returned a bag of frozen hash browns because I realized they had lard (WTF) just after getting home with them (only a few minutes to the store and back), but afterwards I realized they probably couldn't resell them. I felt pretty bad. I wouldn't do something like that again - I just read labels more carefully now.
I've purchased some honey-laden things too. I think I skip over it sometimes. If it's something I can't return (which is really only if it's opened), then I'd usually give it to someone non-vegan.
I'd go ahead and eat it, you already purchased it.
I would eat it too. I'm still using my last jar of honey that I bought before going vegan.

I did this too the other day!! I was in a rush and wanted a healthy cereal so got one that seemed to be mostly oats, nuts and fruits... But that honey sure can hide itself in the ingredients. I opened it and used some before I noticed, when I suddenly had an urge to re check the ingredients. I'm not sure what to do with it now as I doubt anyone else in the house will want it.
I would have probably given it to someone else.

really? wow i wouldnt have the cheek to do that. id only return food if it was mouldy or something.

anyway personally id probably try to finish the bowl I had, fail miserably as i felt bad, and then let the rest sit in the cupboard til it went stale whilst i thought what to do with it.
could you feed it to birds (warning: i am not bird knowledgable, someone let me know if this is dodgy). orrr make rice crispy style cakes and give them away? im sure people will eat half eaten cereal if its in cake form!
