She was going to get something to eat at the library cafe, and asked if I was okay with people eating meat in front of me. I of am, but it made me feel really good that she asked! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smitten.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":smitten:">

Whenever I go out with a friend for the first time they often do that, I thought it was normal

I usually think it's weird (and a bit awkward)! What are they going to do if I say no?<br><br>
haha but anyway I'm glad you have friends that are kind <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

I find it very awkward. What I would LIKE to say is yes, it really bothers me to watch people eating the bodies of animals that were treated so cruelly in their short lives. But if I do that I'm the *******, preachy vegan trying to force her views on everyone. But I find it so hard to validate the person's selfish and immoral choice. I usually go with some middle ground like "I'm not going to tell you what to do, maybe I can recommend something veggie you might like for a change".

Welll, I think they say it like you would 'How was you're day" you're just supposed to say 'good'.

I definetly agree. I wouldn't force my views on anyone else...people just find that annoying.

Yeh hate that. I have actually said I minded once, but then smiled and said, "don't worry about it, everyone does it!".<br><br>
For me, the sign of a really good friend is when they don't put me in that position by asking, and they just order something as close to vegan as possible - that's what I call respect! The first time a friend did that for me I nearly humped his leg. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"> With my omni friends, it doesn't happen as often as I'd like though unfortunately. But at least when they ask if they can eat meat in front of you, it shows that they've given it a fleeting thought rather than the majority of people who will eat it anyway without giving a toss.

That's sweet. I've been asked before, but not in a long time. Mostly my really close friends, when I initially stopped eating meat.

The world is full of 'nice' people. I'm not one of them.<br><br>
Anyone asks me if I am ok with people eating eating meat in front they get something along the lines of "About as ok as most people would be with other people stomping kittens in front of them. How do <i>you</i> feel about people stomping on kittens so long as they only do it behind your back?"<br><br>
I have no freinds, obviously ...

Heh, my view on it is I'm not in a position to question the morality of others. I just really liked that she thought to ask. She knows some vegans get really uptight about it, possibly rightly so, and didn't want to offend me. I still think it's rather horrific, but I'm sure I do things others consider horrific as well.

Are you not in a position to question the morality of them?

This happened the other day to me too. We were in a drive through and my new friend from my class asked if eating chicken in front of me would bother me, and I said no. That was really nice of her to ask. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">
