Insomnia is a sleep disorder. Stress, jet lag, a health disorder, the drugs you take, or even the amount of coffee you drink can all lead to insomnia, or the inability to get to sleep or sleep well at night. Other sleep disorders, as well as mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, can cause insomnia.

One thing that helped me go to sleep at night was to stop eating a 3rd meal in the evening. I would eat a normal breakfast and lunch with nothing but water between meals and then no other food after my lunch. It was hard at first but now I'm used to it. Before making this change, I would go to bed at 10 pm and stay awake until 1 or 2 a.m. Now I go right to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. My reasoning about this change is that when we eat food, its purpose is to give us energy. I realized I didn't need "energy" at 10 pm at night. So taking away that last meal (5-6 pm) helped a lot. I also lost about 30 pounds which I needed to do.

Maybe this info will help someone else too.
