Skin got worse after going Vegan?

I had high hopes as far as beauty goes once I transition to Vegan-ism. I expected clear, beautiful skin and soft, frizz-less hair. I am only 3 weeks Vegan, so maybe things have to get worse before they get better? I have been hoping that maybe my skin has been detoxing and will clear up soon?

It is important to understand that I have always had nice skin (prior to going Vegan). I would get the occasional breakout, but mostly my skin was clear. Seeing pimples is foreign to me so I might sound a little dramatic

My hair, I am less worried about because I have horse hair, so I really am not expecting too much on that spectrum.

Has anyone had experience with this?

Where on your face is it breaking out? T-Zone? Corners of your lips? Cheeks?
Corners of lips and cheeks, which is weird because if I break out it used to always be on my chin and forehead.
Great! That actually really helps.

Okay, so "T-Zone" breakouts are usually genetic or hormonal. They are the breakouts we get when our period is coming around or when we are going through puberty. It includes your forehead, nose, chin.

Lips and cheeks. I have no clue about cheeks. Lips are usually when you are eating food with oil or some kind of pore blocking food, and you don't clean your face that night. One time I went through a pizza phase where I was eating daiya pizza like every other night and I kept getting pimples on the corners of my lips. I made a planned parenthood appointment thinking my ******* ex had given me herpes, she goes "Lay off the greasy food or wash your face after." Sure enough, after washing my face diligently every night, they stopped happening.

I would find (if you can afford it) a good vegan exfoliate face wash, and wash your face every night for a week or so and see if that clears it up while your body is working out whatever it needs to work out. I use Alba Acne-dote. (I don't have acne, it prevents any pimples for any reason and makes the ones you have go away. I haven't had one since I started using it.)

Sugar. Simply use regular (beat sugar is vegan)or brown sugar with whatever you wash with.
Fine sea salt is also good.
Don't ever use those scrubs with exfolliating beads. They're another harmful product that gets to the open water and is harmful to aquatic life. They;re literally beads of like a plastic and clog the gills of fish

Really your skin just reacts to all kinds of changes. Any change in diet, or daily habits, stress. Give it a while and try not to focus on it. Be sure to eat healthy

The Alba one I mentioned uses walnut shells rather than those plastic beads which are HORRIBLE for aquatic and marine life.

Believe it or not, vegans lean more on oils (some substitute it for butter) which can cause major breakouts. I have found that if you eliminate all oils, which is tricky (it's even in bread!), it gets rid of all oil on the face, it stops break-outs, and your hair doesn't get built up with oil. I used to have to scrub my hair with a lot of "cleansing" shampoos everyday and it still didn't work. I stop eating oil, and I have to go find moisterizing shampoos for the first time in my life. Give yourself a trial period and see if eliminating all oils (consumed, it's okay to put on skin) gets rid of the acne.
After going vegan, my wife & daughter both started breaking out with bumps on their face. It lasted 6 weeks or so, then cleared up. I read in a few books that it might be the toxins being expelled from the body, etc. They didn't do anything special, it just went away on its own.
I hope it's a detox thing because I am currently having the same problem but all over my face. I've been vegan for 6 weeks. Could be a hormone thing. I clean my face i have combination skin, doesn't get really oily anymore (a recent thing). I've been using this tea tree stuff... I switched back to half that half antibacterial hand soap because it used to work better for me but I need to find a vegan one. Or should I just stick with what I've been using and wait it out...? I am probably being impatient lol.

I find that when I eat more sugar, my skin tends to break out. Could it be that you are eating more refined grains or large amounts of fruit? Both contain sotospeak hidden sugars, refined grains contain starches that quickly break down to glucose, and fruits (even though they are also PACKED with healthy stuff) generally contain a lot of sugars so you should avoid eating large amounts in one meal, or rapidly increasing your intake...
I've noticed that my skin is most clear when I really limit the amount of fats and sugar in my diet.
Thank you everyone for your recommendations and input! I'll be on my 6th week vegan and thought that the acne was a result of the toxins leaving my body, but they haven't cleared up on their own. So, I found a WONDERFUL vegan skincare company on Etsy and have been using her products for a few days now and am loving the results. I don't use any more oils than I did when I wasn't vegan so I don't know why I had better skin when I was not plant based. Anyways, I'm hoping I find a lasting solution fast because I am not used to being self conscious about my skin and don't want to start wearing makeup...
For get oily free skin

1. don not use moisturizer because most chances are it will have oil in it and make your skin more oily.
2. Use a cleanser that is oil free.
3. Eat better, foods such as chocolate, french fries and soda, cause oily skin and acne.
4. Don't over wash your face because it will dry out your skin and signal your glands to produce more oil.
5. Use a toner for your face, trust me it helps.
6. Use oil blotting sheets, they work amazing when you are at school or work and need to freshen up your face.
