So i'm getting sick again, this time i know the source and it is my mom, now if you are exposed to a virus or infection a lot of people would get sick, but some don't because they have a better immune system, i used to have that. I never got sick before and i feel like now it is a lot more, and that i will have to actually worry every time someone around me is sick. Do you guys think it could be eating too much modified soy in mock meats? I feel like something happened that lowered my immune system and this is basically the only thing that makes sense to me, because eating healthier for the most part, taking vitamins, and exercising is supposed to make me healthier right?

do you have a stressful job, or under stress from school? stress can weaken your immunity. i usually get sick after a stressful event like finals week at school or a big presentation at work.

It could be the smoking. You do not smoke. Mock meat is loaded with sodium from salt. Webmd says that cutting sodium from diet is as good as quitting smoking for health. <b><a href="http://chuckbluestein.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/first-post-latest-medical-news/" target="_blank">Salt is not a food</a></b> and damages you on a celluear level since every cell has a sodium-potassium pump. 40% of Americans over age 40 have high blood pressure.<br><br>
They say that salt only hurts some people. It hurts all people, but some it takes longer than others. 100% of people over age 65 (in U.S.) have high blood pressure or hypertension. The AMA wants the FDA to make salt a regulated substance. One piece of mock meat has more sodium than 100 pounds of unprocessed fruits and vegetables. What is less well known is how much overweight salt makes people. Salt has no calories.<br><br>
So according to webmd.com if you start smoking and cut salt then your health will be the same!

Regarding salt: There is a difference between sodium in processed foods versus table salt. Try to avoid high sodium processed foods but do not worry about adding a bit of table salt to your food. Use iodised table salt so you get iodine because many people don't get enough iodine.<br><br>
About veggie meats: They're all different. If you're afraid of soy for whatever reason, just use something else like seitan. Or eat another, better source of protein: unprocessed legumes. Regarding your immune system: There could be any number of explanations, but hygiene plays a HUGE role in the prevention of the spread of disease. The more people you come in contact with and the less often you wash your hands then the more often you will get sick. This is particularly true if the people you come in contact with are children. So the take away is simply to wash your hands more often and encourage others to do the same.<br><br>
But there are other explanations: maybe you just got lucky before and you never got sick because you were already immune to the viruses floating around. Or maybe you are under stress and just don't realize it. Maybe going veg is something you've sort of been stressing about without realizing it. Or maybe you have a more serious underlying condition that you don't yet know about (don't freak out, I'm not saying you have cancer or anything, I'm just saying that there are other possibilities for why you're getting sick). And lastly, remember that some of these viruses are getting stronger (think swine flu, bird flu, etc.). So even if your immune system is perfectly healthy, the nasty viruses can really knock you down hard.<br><br>
Regardless, now that you're sick take good care of yourself. Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids.

if you think it could be the mock meat try cutting it out for a time and see what happens. if you still get sick often you know it's not the cause or at least not the sole cause<br><br><br><br><div class="quote-container"><span>Quote:</span>

oh really? prove it. 100%? where's the study that tested every single person in the us over 65?

I thought that a lot of people have LOW blood pressure...Apparently my grandmother does.

Zirpkatze's advice to try cutting out any suspect foods and see if that helps is pure commonsense.<br><br>
Personaly I eat quite a bit of mock meat. Sometimes I feel a bit 'heavy' afterwards. Like my body is telling me that it would have prefered 'purer' foods. No noticeable effect other than that though.<br><br>
Might be worth finding out if you have any allergies to either wheat or to Soy?<br><br>
Migh also be worth trying a course of 'echinacea' which is supposed to help boost the immune system as well.

In general, what you do eat is more important than what you don't eat as far as your immune system is concerned. If you're getting all the nutrients your immune system requires in order to do its job, then it should. Other major factors, some of which have been mentioned already, are stress, fitness, sleep, hygiene, and good sanitation habits.<br><br>
Stress can interfere with your immune response drastically. Having a healthy body helps a lot. Lots of sleep is crucial, since that is when the rest of your body shuts down, thereby giving your metabolic processes (such as immune response) the chance to be at their strongest. Simply having good food preparation habits is a good practice. Often what we assume is a cold is actually minor food poisoning, and is very common.<br><br>
Fresh air is also nice, especially in the winter months. When it starts to get cold, people typically close all the windows, turn up the heat, and pile on clothes that are not washed as regularly (like coats), creating an ideal environment for bacteria or viruses to reproduce. Thus, it is not the cold that brings on colds, it is our reaction to the cold.
