I was reading up on how the word vegan is pronounced and someone made a good case for it to be "ve-jun" ... the "ve" like "bed" not "bee" (or ve-jan, ve-jan ,ve-jin ... same sound really)

It makes sense as the word comes from vegetable and other words like veggy, vegetarian, vegetate, vegetation, all have the "j" sound.

Why is vegan with a hard "g" sound?

Does anyone have a link with info on how the originators of the word wished it to be pronounced???

It´s the combination of g with a dark vowel (a, u, o), which makes the g being pronounced as g (hard and dark), whereas in combination with a light vowel like e, i, y it´s pronounced as j (nice and easy).
