Hi everyone! It's been quite a while since I've posted, but now I'm back. I'm sure there are very few who will remember me. I officially finished Ironman Wisconsin on September 10, 2006 in 13 hours 41 minutes. If anyone is training for triathlons, I'd love to give you any advice or tips. But here is my sad warning: I was unable to stay vegan my second year of triathlon training - that is my final year of training that led up to Ironman. I couldn't do it. In fact I couldn't even stay vegetarian. I'm not saying that it can't be done, just that I couldn't do it. 8-10 hour workouts on fruits and veggies was impossible for me. But, back to my original reason for posting, I certainly would love to give any support to others who are tri-ing.

Congratulations! Haha, I can't ask for advice - I can't even run a mile right now. (Biking is another story... ) I'd love to run someday, but I just don't have the time or motivation right now. Anyways, that is a great accomplishment! Good luck on many more runs in the future.

Congrats on your Ironman!! I heard that the conditions at IM WI were very tough this year too!

I've been doing Ironmans for 7 years now, all on a vegan diet. Let me know if you ever want advice on how to fuel for all the training and racing.

Congratulations again!!

Trivegelete: Great job at doing Ironmans on a vegan diet. Did you finish all of them? What an amazing challenge. I wish I had known you when I was doing all the training last year. I just couldn't eat enough to satisfy myself - I couldn't fit in all the homemade cooking with all my workouts and taking care of my home and family. All excuses, but I couldn't figure out a solution. I'm glad there is someone on the board who can give that kind of advice to anyone attempting Ironman as a vegan. But I'm excited to get back to a healthier eating lifestyle. As for giving me advice on fueling while training, thanks for the offer, but I'm no longer doing triathlons. It takes too much time and I'd rather get back to my favorite activity: martial arts.

Thanks! Yes, I've finished all of them so far! My next one is in a couple of weeks!! I know what you mean about trying to fit in training, eating, AND a life. Not easy. Have fun getting back into martial arts. Sounds like a blast!!

Congrats on your Ironman, Gashlycrumb! And good luck with your next one, Trivegelete! That's really awesome.

I've run several marathons as a vegetarian, but I'm now training for my first distance run (1/2 marathon) as a vegan. When I train, I eat like food is going out of style, so I'd love to hear any suggestions you guys might have for meals, snacks, or what to eat while running (I'm hypoglycemic, so I can't run for 2 hours without eating something on the way).

I'd love to do an Ironman someday, but I'm terrible at riding a bike. Maybe we should find a relay and make a team.

Congrats on the Ironman

Trivegelete...I am working out hard with weights (6 days a week) and bike riding and I am always hungry. I am a vegan so any helpful tips would be great!!! I am still having protein issues...I weigh 112 and I am 5'5" and I just keep hearing that without "egg whites" I will never get where I want to be, which is big naturally. By big I mean cut and lean not "manly" big

Way to go Gashly!!! That is so awesome!

I remember when you first posted your interest in doing an ironman. It wasn't really that long ago. I don't think you had even run a marathon or done a triathlon at the time if I remember correctly....and now you've done the ironman....that is incredible

Congrats
