Anyone know if this is vegan? I have been reseaching this like crazy and can't find any info other than that they do not test on animals, which doesn't always mean 100% vegan. This is my favorite hair care line and want to know if I need to give it up.

Any help I'd appreciate,
thanks.

Bad news girl I'm afraid - looks like you're going to have to find another favourite brand. Here's the ingredient list for one of their shampoos (Straight Sexy Hair Shampoo) which isn't vegan.

Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Bentaine, Cocamide MEA, Glycol Distearate, Steareth 4, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, Honey (Mel), Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil (Meadowfoam), Allantoin, Panthenol, Sorbitol, Isostearyl Alcohol, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimoniumchloride, PEG 12 Dimethicone, Dimethicone PEG 8 Meadowfoamate, Polyquaternium 7, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Methylparaben, Fragrance (Parfum)

They also don't make the cruelty-free lists of either PETA or Leaping Bunny so their claims about not testing on animals are not true.

That they're not on either list doesn't automatically mean that they lie about testing on animals.

Yeah, it just means whatever company had not signed a form for PETA or LB stating they don't test and whatnot. Why companies don't do it, I haven't a clue, but many don't.

PETA can be iffy at times but the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) is a very trustworthy organisation. I'd rather trust their opinion than yours - sorry.

Bending the truth about animal testing happens everyday with companies. The Sexy Hair Company has a very aggressive and image conscious marketing attitude, and also has no product ingredient list on their website which are two factors that make them suss immediately. Cruelty-free companies with nothing to hide will tell you everything about their product on their websites.

Mrs T, feel free to go find us some evidence that the Sexy Hair company are NOT lying or bending the truth in some way about testing on animals.

I gather it's quite hard to find any vegan hair products. I've washed my hair with baking soda and vinegar since before I went vegan, and it's better than any shampoo or conditioner I've ever used. Made the whole process so much easier.

I think the burden of proof is on you to prove that they ARE lying. It's absolutely ridiculous to accuse them of lying about animal testing just because they're not on some list. You didn't say they might be lying. You said they ARE lying. Prove it.

The ingredient list on their shampoo is NOT vegan, and they are not on the list for cruelty-free companies so the burden of proof is on YOU to prove that this company is ethical.

Thanks for the info. Although I am a little disappointed since I enjoyed the product I can't really see myself consider a product that is not cruelty-free a favorite anyway! I will search for something I love and can trust won't harm animals!! Thanks again.

Quote:

I agree it has been heard with the research I have been doing. But it will be worth it in the end. I don't know that I could do the baking soda/vinegar thing, but I may try it!!

I never said they were ethical. That is not even the point. The point is that it's ridiculous to accuse people of stuff without any proof whatsoever. You have no proof that they test on animals just because they have a non-vegan ingredient list. According to you, they obviously test on animals because they're not on a couple voluntary lists, which makes no sense at all. If you're going to go making accusations against people, YOU are the one who needs to offer the proof, but I'm not going to argue this stupid point with you any further. Moving on.

Hi, Nishani,

God has shown me that I have been very bad in this thread. Just because I disagree with your conclusions doesn't mean I have a right to be so snarky and mean about it. I'm deeply sorry for my bad attitude.
