McMINNVILLE, Tenn. - A former teacher serving an eight-year prison sentence for having sex with a 13-year-old student agreed Wednesday to serve two more years for sending the boy nude photos of herself.

Pamela Rogers pleaded guilty to two counts of solicitation of sexual exploitation of a minor. She admitted sending the photos, and investigators allege she also received photos and videos from the boy, now 15.

Let's get this straight. First, she pleads guilty to two counts, getting 8 years, but only having to serve six months, the rest of the sentence suspended under certain conditions.

Second, she violates those conditions, so is put in prison to serve out the full 8 year sentence.

Third, she yet again manages to contact this boy, thus adding two more years to her sentence, making it ten years in total.

No, not okay.

This is absolutely insane.

And how does this woman get internet access and whatnot from within prison?

Especially since part of her sentence is not to use the internet?

Joe, I gathered from the article that she was out of jail when she sent the photos. Something like:

She's sentenced to the 8 years.

Sentence is suspended and she's out on parole/probation/whatever it's called. One of the conditions for this arrangement is not to contact the boy.

She sends the photos, is caught and has to serve out her full 8 years.

Prosecutors bring new charges since this is an additional incident, and she receives 2 additional years for that.

I find the shrink's description of her as a sex addict to be a bit lacking. This doesn't take into account that her choice of sex partner was a 13-15 year old boy. (blech)

You are right. I guess I misunderstood the way this was reported as something new, and misunderstood the gap in time between her re-incarceration and these new charges being brought. This article explains it more clearly:

http://tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...EWS03/70110017

what does her hair color have to do with anything?

You are entitled to believe that her hair color and her general physical attractiveness had nothing to with the fact that she initially got a 6 month sentence with the rest suspended, and that her treatment by the legal system and the press have nothing to do with her appearance--if you wish to believe these things.

Second thought: That's rather sad. She's so young (29). She'll be 39 when she gets out. Maybe instead of inprisioning her for a slap on the wrist they should have tried long-term treatment to actually help her.

Given our parole system, an eight-year sentence does not mean that she will literally serve eight years. One of the articles talked about her being eligible for parole in 2008, but that might have been before this 2-year add on.

Yes, I agree that it sure looks like this woman is mentally ill. But our society does not want to provide people with health care, much less mental health care. We seem to believe that throwing people in prison is the answer to all our problems.

Some people will say: "If it had been a 28-year-old male teacher having sex with a 13-year-old girl, you'd have no problem with tossing him in prison and throwing away the key." The implication being that we have to treat the opposite gender situation in the same way, out of consideration for political correctness and equality.

I am really not sure that the situation really does as much harm when a female teacher seduces a minor male student. (I did not say it does *no* harm, but I'm not convinced that the harm is the same as in the male teacher/minor female student case.) I'd like to see more information about the harm really caused to the victim in this type of situation.

Hair color? that's kind of a stretch in my book too, Joe. Blonde does not guarantee attractiveness. I do think beauty would be a factor but not hair color or have you been watching legally blonde? lol i just saw it.

eta: she is very beautiful tho.

If a 29 year old man had violated his parole to send pictures of his penis to a 14/15 year old girl, would you be as forgiving?

Yeah but a woman doesn't have a penis, I've noted that for some years now

I dunno, I suppose the one implication is right and wrong and so is the alternative implication right and wrong (an/any approach whereby justice might declare going soft on women), so then if we have such a dual option, each with contravening badness either way, there's no justice, or at least no pleasing everyone.

Badness because there is no absolute "good" way I guess to deal with or punish the woman doing the thing to make her like it had been a man offending doing the same thing (or as close as nature calls, lol) etc.
