Okay, sure, that's not how it's spelled, but y'all know what I'm talking about, right? I just had a wrap at the local natural-esque joint where you can get satan (whatever!) substituted for the chicken in any salad or wrap and I had a thai "chicken" wrap and it was ssssssooooooooo good.

The end.

For as much as I ***** and whine about this horrid little slice of redneck exurbia I call Newark, Delaware, it certainly has its share of veg-ameneties! A great Indian food place, a decent co-op, and a number of "normal" restaurants with veg-friendly menues.

Where do you live that is so un-veggie, one?

Does anyone make their own seitan? I have made it about four times. I have found it to be somewhat difficult to get the exact texture I am looking for, but each time I make it I get better and better. I have been flavoring the wheat gluten with ground cumin, a pinch of chilli powder, salt and a lot of fresh pepper. I tried paprika once because I knew I was going to use it to make stroganoff, but the paprika just leaked out into the vegetable broth I was using to cook the seitan. Fortunatly Hubby is very patient with my kitchen experiments.

OK Max- You can't start talking about food without letting me know where you're eating! Me and the fam are always here and there and would love to know where we can get our daily dose of satan

I will never tell! NEVER!!! Wait, why wouldn't I?!?! "Home Grown" on Main Street in Newark. Lots of veggie options, as I mentioned. They seem to have a good vegan selection, too, but I'm not vegan, so I didn't investigate that much. Not TOO pricey, considering the quality of the food (even the satan is made there at the restaurant).

BeachGirl: I make my own, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert. Usually I julienne slice it or grind it up in the processor and add it to things (so texture isn't a big issue). The first few times I made it with regular flour (what a chore washing it to get the gluten part) - then I got gluten flour mail order. Much easier!
