<div class="quote-block">BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein has been executed, according to two Arabic language media outlets.<br><br><br><br>
Hussein was hanged before dawn on Saturday in Iraq, at about 6 a.m. (10 p.m. Friday ET), the U.S.-backed Al-Hurra television reported.<br><br><br><br>
Earlier, Munir Haddad, a judge on the appeals court that upheld the former dictator's death sentence, and an adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki each confirmed the paperwork needed for Hussein's execution had been prepared late Friday.<br><br><br><br>
"All the procedures have been completed," Haddad said.</div>

I suppose they felt it was urgent to kill him now before the situation got so out of control that he could escape from prison, just like Hussein's nephew did recently.

So they decided to create another martyr instead of locking him in a hole somewhere forgotten for the rest of his life. Another gallon of gasoline has been poured on the Iraqi Civil war because of this.<br><br><br><br>
Saddam was accused of ignoring human rights and killing people without trial. We have just had a kangaroo court execute a man. Why do we preach about human rights while we ignore them ourselves?

Here I thought the human race was moving upward in terms of ethics. It seems we are still bloodlusted enough to still hang people.<br><br><br><br>

Good to see that at least the EU is moving forward in ethics. The only thing America moves forward in anymore is entertaining themselves.

I wonder how many people have forgotten Bush's ultimatum the night before the attacks, that "Saddam must disarm his WMD or we will disarm them for him!!!!"<br><br><br><br>
Informant: Uh, Mr. President, we can't find and WMD.<br><br>
President Buzh: Thats fine, we'll just change the tagline for our televised war to "IRAQI FREEDOM!"<br><br><br><br>
At least the ignorant people can sleep in peace tonight, thinking that the guy who ordered planes to attack the US is dead <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/inquisitive.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":stinkeye:"> .

But didn't you know? America is above the law, above ethics, above morals, above the world. We can do what we want to whom we want.

<i>In Baghdad’s Shiite enclave of Sadr City, hundreds of people danced in the streets while others fired guns in the air to celebrate. The government did not impose a round-the-clock curfew as it did last month when Saddam was convicted to thwart any surge in retaliatory violence.</i><br><br><br><br>
If what the media told was true about torture and murder of many many people under his leadership and by his order, then I'd probably be dancing in the streets too. Especially if those tortured/killed were my family. I'm glad for the relief these people now feel. Now they have closure.<br><br><br><br><i>Saddam was executed at a former military intelligence headquarters in Baghdad’s Shiite neighborhood of Kazimiyah, al-Askari said. During his regime, Saddam had numerous dissidents executed in the facility.</i><br><br><br><br>
How appropriate that he would be killed in a place where he ordered killings.<br><br><br><br>

I'll probably get slammed for saying this; I don't really care. I'm not sad that they hung the *******. In my opinion, his victims and their families more than likely believe he deserved a slow and painful death. That's what I would hope for anyhow if I was a victim or a family member of a victim.

I agree, it emphasizes a similarity in his execution and in the killings he ordered.

Since you killed people, were going to kill you, your citizens, and our soldiers, to show you and others that killing is wrong. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/dunce.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":dunce:">

the ultimatum was that he leave iraq in 48 hours, which means you have no point in that post and you're as ignorant as those you mock, congrats <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

I think the guy was lucky to get off with a hanging instead of beheading. He was always good at ordering beheadings too. Actually, these people treated him more civilized than he had treated most of their dead. He got better than justice. He got mercy. They didn't even begin to pay him back for what he had done and ordered done to people in his country. He's no martyr. He's a pile of yesterday's garbage just like his sons. There are many reasons to rejoice in that country today. If you hated him, you are glad he is dead. If you followed him, now you can plot your own way to the top. No martyr, just yesterday's news.
