i don't know where to put this, maybe it will be moved...

today at school, some stupid boys (not little boys, high school boys) threw a basketball at a bird and she got caught on the fence and fell to the ground with a huge gash in her side, writhing in pain. these stupid boys stood there laughing hysterically until a friend and i offered them a few obscenities and picked up the bird and took her away. on our way to the science department, she died in my friend's hands and we took her to the morgue. she was a mourning dove, and they mate for life so her mate and also her eggs which she had probably already laid will die too. and these boys just laughed.

excluding insects, i don't think i've ever seen any animal actually die before and i feel very sad and disoriented and still nauseous even though this happened 10 hours ago. people are stupid.

I'm so very sorry. I have had animals die in my hands before, but I've been lucky enough not to witness such deliberate cruelty firsthand. I only hope those kids have some future experiences which will teach them empathy.

Animal cruelty is against the law. Report them. Even if they aren't convicted or charged you should still report it. People like them are scum.

That must have been upsetting for you.

Those boys need to learn. Maybe one day they will look back and regret their actions.

that is very sad , i think the only comfort is that the bird was in your friends hand when he did die and not being surrounded by these idiots laughing at him, i do think that you do need to go and tell a teacher on what these boys did, as they may continue doing things like that.... I will never understand why people get satisfaction out of hurting/killing an animal it is so sad to hate that much..........

That was very sad. I'm sorry for your pain and for the death of the bird. I had a kitten when I was a little girl that was stoned to death by neighborhood boys. I never thought people could be so cruel. I truly am sorry.

These things hurt like blazes, but it is so wonderful that your preciouse heart was moved by the pain of that helpless creature. You are truly a person of great heart.

To add my voice to the chorus - definitely report them. That is blatant animal cruelty - those boys won't be laughing when they are slapped with a fine.

I agree. Maybe it will draw attention to the fact that they may have psychological problems. People who abuse animals rarely stop there. Also tell school officials as well. You are doing the animals, the community, and hopefully them a favor.

How very sad! I'm so sorry! For you and for the dove. I love listening to mourning doves and my little girls already know when they hear one what it is.

some small good news- the guy who threw the ball did get in trouble and got 10 hours of community service in an animal shelter...doesn't sound like a real punishment to me, but i hope he at least learns some respect.

If i were you I would go to some sort of authroity figure and explain what happend and that your upset about it. actually i dunno what a school would do in a situation like that, I am interested.

I'm glad you reported the incident. Sickos like those boys at your school need a swift kick up the arse. I hope he has caring parents who punished him also, although I doubt it. Hatred and ignorance often begins at home.

A couple of years ago my mum saw this car hit a koala and simply drive off. She rushed it to an animal hospital but she died of head injuries. There is no punishment for hitting an animal on the road. This b*stard was obviously to horrible to even help the koala, he had hit.

People make me sick.

When it's an animal as endangered as the koala, yes, if the person does the hit and run thing. Of course it's an accident but the person should have stopped and looked after it.
