I, um, didn't know where else to put this.

I have a confession to make...

*takes a deep breath*

I... am a Gaming Geek.

There. I said it.

Anyway, I recently joined a superpowered RPG as a vegan, lesbian, socialist superhero/ine. I'm a little worried that someone will post that they are able to communicate with plants and the plants say "please stop eating us" as some kind of retort... I'm also a little worried about homophobic players (not characters). Mostly the plant communicator thing.

Not sure how I would respond if that comes up.

Anyway, any other Gamer Geeks here? And how often does your RL dietary choices and ethics enter into a character? Vampires and werewolves, aside... although I did have a vegetarian werewolf once...

When I RP, I try to get really into the character. Most of the time the character I play is really a variant on the same theme though. I don't think I played (m)any veg*n characters.

For me gaming is pure escapism: whatever sick things we have our characters do have no consequences, though they always leave plenty of things to think about (like the inherent evil-ness of humanity ).

I used to play D&D in high school. That's been a little while.

I recently picked up the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Core Book (I think that's what it's called - the shock of the price affected my memory). I have friends who are Buffy fans who want to get a game going, but it's been so long since I've participated in a roleplaying game that I feel as if I don't quite know where to start.

Has anyone here played this one in particular?

I've heard good things about the Buffy game, people say its surprisingly entertaining and well made. I think it runs off the All Flesh must Be Eaten system? Or was it Witchcraft... Bah.

I haven't experienced it personally.

Well, one can't very well be a vegetarian vampire really, unless you're Count Duckula. I suppose that superhero character is the way she is because the GM set the origin world of the characters as "paradise" and a world where its easy to be a vegan is partially my idea of paradise. So it is a bit escapism there.

And the werewolf vegetarian was, perhaps, an exercise in futility. Like its packmates would be all like "There's nothing like running down your meal! Eat up like a good Warrior of Gaia!" and the character replies, "No, thank you. I'm a vegetarian." The response of the other werewolves was complete slack-jawedness.

Oh wait, just like in real life. Nevermind.

I can make computer games. Sure they have poor graphics there fun to make. I don't really try to get into character on Age of Empires 2 though I was vegetarian only and I had loads of farms and my army went in search of sheep to save and trukeys to save and the all lived in a nice enclosed environment which was really big and they had there on small army protecting them

until the real players killed you and said, 'so thats a settlement, wheres ya base?'

^ sorry is that sounded a bit harsh, but my actions in Computer Games has little to do with real life.

(But one for your side, I would NEVER hunt in those games.)

Hehehe. I'll admit it, I'm a gaming geek, too.

It all started with Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy on the Nintendo. On the computer, I first started playing Gemstone III, a MUD (no graphics). I was an addict for quite a while and then I got kind of bored with the game and quit. I actually met my husband through that game. Now we both play EverQuest, also known as "EverCrack" due to it's very addicting nature.

I'll admit that when I play, I'm not a vegetarian and I do hunt. It's a part of the game in EverQuest (and it was in Gemstone, too). If you don't hunt, you simply can't advance your character. Almost all of the side quests require some form of killing, so you can't get away with not hunting in some form (whether it be animals, evil characters, undead, etc). It's just a game and isn't any reflection of how I am in real life.

My characters, such as in AD&D have never been veg*n..... they've enjoyed many feasts, sitting at tables laden with roast meats.

They've found secret passages full of bat droppings and have had to wipe their boots on the expensive carpet in the King's hall.

They've shot an arrow through an innocent townperson by mistake and have had to kill the witnesses.

In GTA3 I've beaten pedestrians and stolen the ambulance when the medics arrive. I've bombed hospitals and police stations, and I've robbed a store then slaughtered the consumers in the mall (and I've parked a bus on a helipad on a building rooftop).

Also, in Tomb Raider I've shot Dogs and wild animals.

My ethics and dietary choices don't come into game playing at all, because I know they aren't real. Unfortunately not all do.

Oh i dont mind shooting people either, but I really love to play DnD. My characters are always pretty quirky. Hmmmm my favorite class.......I dunno depends on what race I decide to be....*gets urge to call her friends and set up a DnD game* I think I feel like a fighter, maybe I can talk my DM into letting me be a half celestial again,,, heh

I don't think I have a specific favourite game. I like White Wolf's Mage: the Ascension a lot. My usual D'n'D class is Rogue. I looove playing CG rogues.

Well, let's see...

I play EverQuest Online Adventures (PS2). I have Kessira, a level 17 Elf Ranger, Nynael, a level 5 Dark Elf Rogue, and Gilly, a level 3 halfling cleric. I play Kessira the most, as she's my favorite.

In EQ, I kill monsters. I especially like to kill orcs. XD

It's funny, though, the other night, I went to the grocer in a little village outside Highbourne to buy food. As a Ranger, Kess can forage berries at no cost to regenerate HP, but I like to keep some food on hand in case any of my groupmates need it. I was sorting through everything the grocer had to offer, and I found myself thinking that I didn't want to buy the meat, hehe. I ended up with some bread. *g*

In high school, I played Vampire : The Masquerade, but that's the only traditional RPG I've done. I never did D&D.

I do a lot of play-by-post messageboard roleplaying, and I also roleplay via instant message with a friend of mine. I typically like healers, clerics, and mages. Occasionally I'll create a thief.

One character I'm doing now is actually an official vegan, although I don't use that term. She's a cleric-healer sworn to a pacifist deity. She's also an elf. I love elves. ^^

I've also done some anthromorphic roleplaying, but I'm not heavily into the furry scene. My Misa Kitsune character is a fox girl who loves soy. ^____^

So yes, I'm very much a gaming geek. I also love anime, manga, and sci fi.
