My much-loved but ancient and decrepit Docs are all cracked and leak like sieves, and have been resoled three times, and earlier this week developed an actual hole in the leather.

I went out and got a pair of Vegetarian Shoes ranger boots. Lower than my old DMs, but they'll be nice and comfy for summer. Today is Day Three of the Miss Adventure guaranteed boot break-in process (basically, cover your feet in band-aids and start with short walks in the boots, gradually, increasing the time and distance of wear. Grumble and mutter if the boots chafe any non-band-aid-coated areas).

These boots are so comfortable. The air seal sole is even bouncier and springier than DM bouncing soles, and the uppers have softened enough that I can almost bend my foot normally.

I wear an annoying half size, and these ran big, so I went for the smaller size. I still needed an insole to make them fit perfectly.

In all, so far I absolutely love these boots, and when funding permits I plan to get a pair of their engineer boots as well.

For Christmas, I got my husband a pair of Gripfast 3-holed steel toed vegan leather shoes from Pangea. He loves them. They were expensive, but all the other non-leather work type boots got mildewy. I'm always bitching at him though because he likes kicking boxes and stuff around at work and it scuffs his shoes. When did I get so old?

MissAdventure- did you check out www.funkefeet.com for engineer boots? I don't remember if they had any, but they have a good amount of non-leather boots.

Gripfasts are wonderful.

I got the ranger boots at Moo Shoes (I went to their store, but they also do online orders at www.mooshoes.com ); they also carry the engineer boots.

Funkefeet has some neato clubbing boots, though. Too bad I'm such a klutz and don't walk well in platforms.
