This, there are animal-free and more accurate human-based tests under development. Computer models, DNA chips, microfluidics chips, tissue samples and more. It would be wonderful if government ditched the animal method in favor of any or all of these.
It would be, but I'm pretty sure that billboard is not geared toward the government mandated testing of pharmaceuticals. I'm pretty sure it's geared towards basic research, in which using animals is entirely voluntary.
why is it somehow sacrosanct to "care about people more" anyway? I'm sure abolitionists were accused of caring about black folks (using a demeaning word for them) more than whites too. The assumption that it has to be a choice and there's something right about caring for one more is why we're destroying the natural world. Humans just assume themselves to be the most important beings on the planet, with the right to literally torture any other being if they want to. I don't think it's any more holy to say "humans come first" than it is to say "whites come first" or "men come first."
So it's even OK to kill lots of other dogs to help one survive a condition?Emma's Story
Emma is a yellow lab that received innovative surgery to cure her of lameness thanks to advances made through animal research. Animal research saves animals too.
There has been enormous advances in medicine from unethical research, done on unwilling subjects. Mostly human subjects. From POWs, especially Auschwitz. From slaves. From mentally ill and disabled. From prisoners.
Amen to that! Beautifully stated.Originally Posted by Irizary

Humans in general are just so proud to say that no matter what the cost to other earthlings they put their own wants first. People are supposed to accept the premise of the billboard and of course want the human to take precedence, no matter how some innocent animal has to live and die, or for what purpose.
The idiocy with that billboard is that one of those two is being actively tortured and killed for a feature of birth - being born the wrong species; the other belongs to a species that tortures and kills on the chance that maybe someday possibly torturing and killing others will help them. I think people who hold that value are profoundly destructive to the planet and to others. Vivisection advocates can't be trusted - they're saying that they're willing to hurt and kill someone innocent on the chance that they can get what they want out of it.
