*sigh*

It's /b/

They piss me off so much sometimes because one week they'll be standing up for a great cause like freedom of speech in a sensible manner, and then they turn around and pull this dumb crap.

she's a 13 year old kid that sings "friday", that terrible song that has become such a social phenomenon. her mother paid $2000 to make a video. it has spawned an entire industry of spoofs. look her up on youtube.

This song is annoying but what the hell!?

I hope she hangs in there because the internet can be a pretty bad place. I mean, Boxxy can't even show her face without getting death threats... and people like Jesse Slaughter are well known just because some /b/ a$$holes target them for no reason...

By the way, don't confuse the /b/ Anonymous with the hacker group Anonymous. The /b/ Anonymous is a meme and the name that everyone there uses, and the group that does all the great stuff was formed on /b/ and that's why they're called Anonymous, but the same people are not responsible for the same things. The people who pull this crap are usually /b/ junkies who just go by Anonymous because it's meme-worthy, but the freedom-chasing hacker group is pretty much unrelated.

I have never heard of any of those people that you mentioned.

I don't understand why people insist on posting when they don't understand the things they're talking about. I spent my teenage years on those stupid sites, was heavily involved with the admins, the raids and everything. There was no 'freedom chasing hacker group,' it was a stand alone complex which eventually led to co-optation of the name by a disparate group of armchair revolutionaries. Back before the 'good' Anon we were still calling ourselves Anarchists and taking down sites, and it was the same people doing the 'good things' and the 'bad things.' They're not real hackers, they're just bored kids conducting DDoS attacks which are pathetically simple. Perhaps the odd real hacker joins in, but Josh James is right; same group, in so far as there can be said to be a group at all.

Regardless of all that, I would gladly protect Rebecca Black with extreme force if it became necessary. The **** that she has had directed at her is disgusting.

Her song was absolutely horrible, but why on earth would people do something like this because of that? It's just a song...have they tried not listening to it? Works fine for me.

And they're threatening boxxy too? I <3 boxxy, she's such a weirdo.

Kappa has a deeper understanding of /b/ than almost anyone else in this thread.

There is no noble hacker group called Anonymous.

Anonymous is /b/ and /b/ is Anonymous.

They serve only the lulz. They are a destructive force - an internet hate machine so to speak. Sometimes they target things that are very bad and should rightly be targeted. Sometimes they bully and harass teenage girls. They do as they please. They're decentralized and don't truly serve any higher ideals than their own amusement.

That's just the raw truth. You can persist in these romantic notions if you wish, Vegkid, but it's all revisionist history. I've stared into the abyss that is /b/ and the sooner that abyss is filled with concrete the better IMO.

This.

My old blog was attacked by 4chan/anonymous and it was brute force, no clever hacking or cracking. It certainly wasn't idealistic. It was a bunch of pro-porn idiots who can't read or understand nuance... Who can't even grasp the concept that arguing for porn via free speech while silencing dissent is, um, ridiculous.

I have no respect fir any of them or anything they do, even when/if we have the same enemies.

Not something I am proud of. I had fun back in the day, but those were the days when myspace digigrind was a new and interesting idea, Habbo Hotel raids were still considered thrilling and my internet time was dictated either by parents or how well I could imitate a ninja.
