Really Ranch Dressing!

Category: Condiments, Dressings, Spreads

Suitable for a: vegan diet

Ingredients:

------------------------------------------------------

I've talked about posting this several times but never actually did it (I was just reminded)...

The BEST and most "authentic" tasting vegan ranch you can find, and you probably have all the ingredients to make it right now!

1 cup vegan mayonnaise

1/2 cup plain soy milk

1/2 cup vegan sour cream (OR 1/2 cup pureed silken tofu)

1 tsp. white vinegar

1/2 tsp celery salt OR:

1 tsp celery seed AND 1/4 tsp salt

2 tablespoons very finely chopped green onions (or fresh chives, chopped)

1/4 teaspoon onion powder

1 Tablespoon minced parsley (fresh is WAY better here)

1 garlic clove, finely minced

(You can whiz parsley, garlic and a little soymilk in the food processor to make it faster)

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1/8 teaspoon cayenne

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

------------------------------------------------------

Place all ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.

Shake well to blend. Adjust seasonings to your preference.

Makes 2 cups.

Hubby and all his omni buddies ate a ton of it..they had no clue it wasn't "real ranch" as they called it when I told them it was veg*n..LOL

I'm going to make some more to bring to a BBQ as a dip for veggies...I'll be the only veg person there, but I bet I have to fight for a taste of it!

O duh! I went out today and did a zillion errands..one of them was supposed to be buying new herb plants...that freaky snow we had last week killed mine...

Snow in Arizona in May...WTF?!

My obsession with Ranch dressing is one of the reasons my friends didn't think I'd actually go vegan. I can honestly say this recipe is even better than the original. Reminds me of the homemade ranch I grew up on. Thank you so much for this! So far I've used it on salads, baked potatoes, and as a dip. The night I made it, it seemed to have a more mayo taste than I liked, but after sitting with the other flavors overnight, it was perfect.

Cool! Yeah, I like it better after it's "aged" overnight, but can't always wait that long!!

I just made some tonight and my daughter put it on a dish of RICE! (Actually looked pretty good...)

I made mine with silken tofu and hated it
It tasted pumpkin-ish.
I'll try it again with vegan sour cream. I'm really bummed, that was a lot of veganaise I used...

ETA: It wasn't the recipes fault, I have an issue with tofu sometimes.

Hmmm... was the tofu fresh? I've never heard of tofu tasting "pumpkin-y" but I don't really have issues with it.
(A little late now, but...) could you add a little lemon juice and more garlic to counter the tofu taste that you don't care for?

It's also good as a topping for pasta, I wonder if the taste would be as pronounced then?

It was fresh tofu. Maybe I'll press it a lot next time... silken isn't really "press-able" though. You know how some people LOVE cilantro and others HATE it because it tastes soapy to them? They've possibly linked that to genetics... wonder if that's why tofu smells and tastes the way it does to me. Everyone tells me it has no smell or taste, but if you blind folded me and fed me 100 different foods, I could tell you it was tofu before it hit my lips. I do love frozen/pressed tofu marinated in teriyaki...

I still have it in my fridge and it's not going bad anytime soon, I'll mess with it, see what I can do
I'm definately going to buy soy sour cream to make it again, I know this recipe is awesome.

I just made this! The flavour is EXCELLENT, but it was pretty watery. Should there really be 1/2 cup of soymilk? I think I'll add less next time.

I love the ranch-y flavour, I can't wait to dip my vegan pizza in this at lunch!

I made this the first time last year (so yummy) and I made it at night, so it sat in the fridge til the next day...it was a little bit thicker the next day.

Omni hubby would drink this if I let him...
