I was thinking. Everyone I see drowns thier meat in some sauce or marinade or ketchup, to help the "flavor". What does this soud like? TOFU! When I think of meat now all I see is a texture, stringy with muscle fibers, but that is disgusting. If people would give tofu a chance in thier fav dishes, maybe they would not need meat!?

That reminds me of my dad... fixes some meat thing, dumps about a cup of BBQ sauce (or similar) on it, salt pepper, and other things, It's literally swimming in the sauce, tip the plate on end and off goes the meat. When I ask why it's: "to make it taste good"...

Why on earth would you want to eat something that you can't stand the taste of unless it's drenched in some sauce; but then say you'd never eat tofu because you need to add flavor and that you shouldn't have to add flavor to make something good?

I agree, meat is so nasty to me now, all the sauces and stuff still smell good but cooking meat, especially pork, smells so nasty to me. I think in most cases it is the marinade/sauce that the people really like when they eat meat.

oooh--i hate that!! i try and convince people that much like a plain chicken breast, tofu really has no flavor and you season it up in any way you want--but oh nooo not the same. they should change the name of tofu as there is such a negative connotation attached

Word.

I never liked meat without lots of sauce and seasoning. The sauces and seasonings still smell appealing, but the idea of eating flesh sickens me.

I preferred diced meat in curries and stir fries, if I knew someone was cooking a hunk of flesh like a steak I would get miserable because I hated it. I never liked that sort of meat... but I loved curries with meat.

This reminds me of a conversion I had a time ago:

ME: You should try tofu sometime. It's really not bad if you know how to cook it.

FRIEND: I'd eat tofu but when it's raw it's really gross.

ME: Do you eat raw chicken?

FRIEND: Ew.

ME: Yeah...

FRIEND: [Head pops]

YES!!

Augh, some people are just so damn close-minded when it comes to food.

For example, when I started drinking soy milk [this was before I became vegan!], I tried to open other people up to it simply because ITS DELICIOUS!!! But they wouldn't even TRY IT!

I think tofu is much better than meat, and even though I'm vegan, I LOVE MEAT! [I'm from Texas, what can I do :\\ ]

kraftykraft- I can't stand the idea of a vegetarian sneaking tofu into someone's food, simply because I know how pissed off a vegetarian would be if someone snuck meat into their food.

Some people don't like the texture of tofu. I can respect that.

I used to think about this in terms of McDonald's, even when I still ate there, I think. Who would actually eat one of their burgers plain, on a bun with nothing else? If it wasn't for all the stuff (read:crap) they load on them, no one would buy them.

I don't like tofu, but I can season up some rice or pasta (along with veggies, of course) with all the flavorings I like. I have to disagree that meat has no flavor at all -- but I also never ate it completely plain. Maybe that's why I never really like to eat steak -- it was so just a big hunk o' meat.

Vegankittykat: Actually in my experience a plain burger on a bun is a big favorite with the aged 4-7 set; no idea why!
