last time i went for cholestrol check through my medical aid they didnt give me the break down of the ratio between good and bad cholestrol. just that its 7.

i have been eating a lot of avo, hummus, nuts, olive oil things that are suppose to reduce your cholestrol naturally. Also beans.

My vegetarian lifestyle is very healthy.

MAYBE my good cholestrols are high and BAD cholestrol low... like Rabid-child. Then I dont have to worry.

Going to go for a blood test at the end of the month to get the ratio results.

I found this article interesting today: http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/08/17...ths/index.html

Quote:

As a result, studies show some people who think they're high risk based on cholesterol numbers are not, while others who think they are in the clear are developing dangerous plaques.

Esselstyne says that almost all coronary disease can be eradicated with cholesterol levels under 150, and NOT the 200 the govt suggests, as a large percentage are still having cardiac events even under 200. That was such a good book!

I just found an online conversion rate because I was confused by the numbers. Mine was 189 a few months ago but it was 150 two years ago so I'm hoping to get back to that if I lose the weight I gained. I'm going to ask for the breakdown next time I have a blood test.

Quite a few people in my family have high cholesterol (and have had heart attacks) so I'm wondering if it is my vegan diet that is helping me. I have no idea of what my levels were before going vegan though so I can't really compare.

PIxie- run, don't walk to your library or Amazon, and read the book "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Dr Caldwell Esselstyne Jr~ it might save your life, and if you can get your family to eat healthier, maybe them too! It didn't take long to read, was absolutely fascinating, and he tells you why you shouldn't consume olive and canola oil and debunks the Mediterranean diet which advocates the use of olive oil. He does allow oils in whole foods though...

This book completely changed my thinking on the use of oils in relation to preventing diseases.
