how *true* and how *wide ranging* are those needs met ? to what degree?

........ (say compared~* -- if compare we must -- *~to other aspects of your whatever life -- [online or off it doesn't matter] -- its all one at the end of the day, so whatever else (ALL included) constitutes your life, how does VB help that?)

(reality NEEDS preferably, EVEN IF you include in that FUN as for why you come here, and EVEN IF fun is the only thing that brings you here, that CAN still be considered a NEED )

NOTE: impulse response is okay (if it comes with a brain) ...but no 'passe' replies on how boringly cliched good it is, buzz off those please --unless after loads of thought you are still left with that then hey, who am I to hold you back!

Instead what is the truth, about how much and which percent of your life does VB even come close to fulfilling, tell me using as much of your varied broadsheet mind and imagination as possible? >> BUT in Doing So, when you come to write it down do it in a series of short soundbites and/or anecodotes if necessary... (even better in "list form" IMO, or something like, which to me is very welcomed and an ever more ideal way to demonstrate this I feel!, to help asertain OUR NEEDS more easily)

ETA: Anecdotes tend to sound trite to me, so PLEASE~ if you use that kind of way to explain yourself & your life, make it REAL at least.

ETA2: As to what NEEDS, its up to you basicly... (but this is the point to learn what NEEDS they are, maybe even some people here have some outlandish NEEDS which are met by VB, EVEN IF in only a roundabout way)

I have a need to hit my head against a brick wall and I can fulfill that need by reading the recent abortion threads.

All of my boards fufill needs in my life.

I'm a member of a lot of forums. I DO have a life though (lots o a life, hehehe)

The internet takes up a large part of it, since I don't have that many friends (only a boyfriend and one close friend but that's it besides "aquaintences" ), and I look to these boards as being a place where I can socialize and learn from others... I also really enjoy the I Ate Today thread, where I can receive help with my BED by seeing what normal eating patterns are like, as well as make stupid satirical comments on how much I eat even though it pains me to suffer from this disorder inside...

Bumping this recent thread, to tally and compliment along with the thead known as "Technical-type things you'd like to see at VB"

http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/s...ad.php?t=69574

so I Guess that makes for Tech-socialism. Combine some of the wisdom of your needs with the more tech aspects and what have you got? Don't ask me I'm just the janitor. Anyway you know what I'm saying..... Read the OP.

ps, IamJen,... I hope you see my thread as helpful to yours and viceversa mine....

VB helps fulfill my need to be understood, at least in the vegetarian aspect of my life, but that is pretty obvious I suppose. It's just I have so few veg friends in real life. I also like the social aspect of it as I don't have too many friends (veg or not) in real life and sometimes its nice to just chat with people on here who seem to give a damn. It also helps to fulfill my need to belong. I've always felt quite different in many ways from most people, but this is a place where I actually have something in common with people. If procrastination counts as a need, I suppose VB fulfills that quite well hahaha.

I must admit though, that lately the boards haven't been too fulfilling of many needs. I mean they used to, but I guess I've been posting too much for too long? I don't know, the past few weeks I've felt less inclined to post here. And no, I'm not getting fulfillment from other sources. I just post sporatically now if I feel like expressing my thoughts. There are few people I know in RL who are capable of really listening to what I have to say.

Umm I'm not sure if that's the sort of reply you are looking for...if I think of something more enlightening I'll come back to add it

Trust me, that was fine StarBlossom, whatever is important to you to express and so long as comments are kept quite serious I can appreciate whatever that maybe. The degree of seriousness necessary here is to ensure people really think about what they are saying in this thread about what they REALLY NEED from the place, and being HONEST about it.

Some Seriousness is deliberate to prevent this thread being just another arbitrary trip into no-mans-land. And instead a thread in which you CAN REALLY BE HEARD.

.......even if as you say StarBlossom your NEED is inclusive of the fact you like or need to procrastinate and other things necessary for you. BUT THATS COOL, if its important to you, it has its place (my message to everyone!!).

I hope others will on the grounds mentioned tolerate and understand the seriousness factor for the means justified dealt by justified means! (ie, such as that may sound retorical, but then so are a lot of things, which iis my point, but we need to just get over it IF WE CAN and underline the main points of a NEED/necessity/something life giving anyway.... BUT likewise understand in the interests of being fair, I don't wanna be harsh about letting people explain a bit about their needs either so you're a good example of someone with good input SB!! (And in the first place I recognize in you its not hard to believe that you would have some good things to say ).)

....so anyway all in all whatever anyone says here IS ensured worthwhile, whether a negative or positive in approach, as long as it results in something good at the end of it, I see no harm.... So basicly if what VB provides is what you like, say so..... and if not, say whatever is grieving you about it, tell it!!!!....

I want people to speak as freely as they like, just keep seriousness in mind is all I ask anyone posting here.

The outcome will then be good mirror image on how broad our needs are, (without the need for any poll)... And part of the idea of it actually is to make people think a bit as I say, and thats what will be manifested here hopefully as a result of thoughtful posts/ with if you want, some bullet point NEEDS as well to summarize your thoughts better, (if required) following your thoughts in lines of text which expand and demonstrate the thoughts you want known to express and emphasize those points...

1. The ability to converse with like-minded people regarding vegetarianism/veganism.

2. To possibly "reach out and touch" another human being needing comfort/support.

3. To BE "reached out and touched" by other caring/sympathetic individuals when I need it.

4. Awesome recipes. Information, information, information. I do not think I would have gotten nearly enough information regarding veganism without Veggieboards.

4. If I may take the liberty, What I DON'T look for or need is an argument/fight. I do not have a need to jab/poke/insult anyone. I try and stay away from that. I know some people love a good debate. I don't in that it is rare you can find one without it turning ugly. But I have seen a few good, mutually respective debates here on VB and I enjoy reading those.

VB doesn't really meet any need I may have. It does waste some time though when I have it to spare.

This board filled my need to find people who think of animals as beautiful living things and not something that should be sitting on a bun.

I have been given support (I am newly veggie) with my decision and advice as to how to respond to people that find it so odd not to eat meat.

It has been a source of education for me. There were so many things I never new and although the truth has mad me very sad, I have recieved the hugs I needed to pull me out of my sadness and see that doing good for the sake of good, is a happy thing.

Just a need to be accepted somewhere, this seems like a nice place to be. BTW: Thanks everyone for making me feel welcome.

Besides being a wonderful place to have some fellowship with other veg*ns (in RL, I have no veg*ns in my family or among my close friends), VB is a great social outlet for me. My office is right off my studio in my home, and so when I take a pause from work, I can chat with VBers. I guess it's my "watercooler"!

Only one need- but it's a big one: my need for fellowship with others who care as much about animals in general as they do about companion animals. I have close bonds with people in my real life, but most of them just don't share my views about animals. I would say that quite a few folks here are far more passionate about animal issues than I am, but I think I'm closer to those VBers on this topic than I am to people in general.
