and flax seed for that matter. Is filtration important? I see some brands that are unrefined but filtered, and unfiltered/unrefined. Is this important? Which is the best brand?

Also, regarding flaxseed meal such as Bob's Red Mill that is already ground. How long would it have to sit on the shelf at the store before turning rancid? I've always wondered, like at major supermarkets where products in the natural foods section look to be untouched, wouldn't it spoil since it's not refrigerated? Thanks.

I'm not sure about filtration, but I think the milled flax seed is generally OK until the bag is opened and it makes air contact. However, folks around here seem to recommend buying whole and milling it yourself over pre-milled for better shelf life once you open it. I think you can use a spice grinder or coffee grinder.

One thing is air contact and the other is if the flax seeds are grounded, they spoil very quickly if they are. And it depends on how they are stored? the cooler the better. I store my ungrounded flax seed at room temperature and use package rather quickly and don't keep other in store. Flax seed oil I only use every now and then. I buy it in a small dark brown glass bottle an store it in the fridge.

I take Barleens Essential Woman oil daily. I take a teaspoon or two a day because it helps to make my skin less dry and keeps my joints healthier. From my own research and from other opinions, I have heard Barleens and Udo's has the best oil. I used to buy flaxseeds and grind them into my oatmeals and soups and that was really tasty!

I am pretty sure that it does as they both have the essential fatty acids that help make the skin and hair nice. I am going to buy some Flaxseeds this weekend and start using them again. it is much cheaper then the oil.

Here is a link that I could find about it: http://www.goldenflax.com/flax-seed-oil.html
