Not sure anymore how serious i am about this , maybe this is a phase.

and i don't eat luch or breakfest because i am not sure what to eat , and i am ememployed and live with people and they buy the food , and have no money to help myself and buy things to my liking .

Greg, I don't think that you need a new thread about this. Have you looked back at the thread you wrote earlier? There are three pages of good replies there waiting for you.

Also try the Tip of the Day Thread. There are tips there on how to cook beans and tofu, meal ideas, nutrition, egg and dairy replacements, but I do go on and on...

This thread made me smile.

Sometimes it is very difficult to stick to your principles but that's why you need the help of others. A little kick in the butt from Chiaraluna and a visit to a website and you're back on track. And do not get Tesseract started... lol.

Being vegetarian and then that further restriction of being vegan can be tough. But once you get used to it you'll see all the amazing foods you can eat without questioning your morals (on this issue anyway).

Quote:

Don't cook the fruitloops!!! It's best to eat it raw with raw rice milk.

Mmm... Froot Loops.

...One thing, though. Don't fill up on junk. Junk is yummy and all, but your body needs more than all that processed crap on Peta's website.

Sure, have some junk every once in a while if you want, but be sure to balance it out with lots of healthy stuff.

Remember: Just because it's vegan doesn't mean it's good for you.

if you check out the produce aisle, there is probably at least 50 things you can pick up, dpeending on the store. [you know, those crazy fruits and vegetables we are supposed to eat 10 of a day]

That is exactly what I figured your problem was. I'm glad you went back and had a second look. Don't be afraid to have a third, fourth or twentieth look! I've been vegetarian for four years (vegan for one and a half) and I still find new and interesting things almost every time I go to the grocery store.

Though if you eat like that you'll be on in a few weeks claiming being vegan is making you sick. Don't rely on processed foods to give you what you need Greg.

You're sort of contridicting yourself too. Do you buy any food or have input on the grocery shopping or is it all out of your hands? You never went back to your previous thread or answered any of the questions I asked to help you there. What kinds of foods are in your fridge/pantry right now?

The place in the supermarket that should put the most food in your carriage is the produce section. Veggies and fruits should fill up most of your diet. Finding out froot loops and golden oreos might be a nice treat but they're not healthy. They won't give you any of the vitamins or minerals that your body needs. In fact, 90% of the I can't believe it's vegan list isn't really going to help you nutritionally.

I think I/we can help more if you answer those questions.

Great! It sounded as if you had the "just gone vegan and want _____" blues, most people get them shortly after going vegan, you want cheese (very common), milk chocolat or whatever (I'm not going to list all of the cravings, it won't help ya!). People will say that it is just a phase, I think that my mom still believes that I'll give it up eventually, even though that is loosing steem. I guess that the best thing you can do with all of these "phase" comments, is use them as a challange to never give up, that's what I did. And never refuse the read the ingrediants before you know that it is not vegan! I found these awsome cream things at my grocery store that are vegan, and everyone always thinks that I'm eating dairy until I let them read the ingrediants (they are so far from healthy, but that's a different topic).

But anyhow, goodluck going and staying vegan. If you really are into this, then it is not just a phase but a new way to live out your life.

if you want to survive on processed foods, then that is your choice, but my guess is that you will become ill, just as any omnivore would. food takes time to prepare. you are not unique in that you are busy with other things [though people who work also cook]. you can choose to either live healthfully and prepare foods for yourself or not. it is time to take responsibility for your body and it is great that you have become vegan and are owning up to the pain you previously caused. the next step is to treat YOUR OWN SELF right and feed yourself good, nourishing foods.

good luck. i hope you decide to start eating healthier and move towards less packaged foods.

Anyway, I'm really glad that you have such a positive new outlook, Bronco! We'll be happy to help give you some suggestions of really easy, nutritious vegan meal ideas... There are lots of things that only take a few minutes and very minimal cooking experience to prepare! Can you give us some sort of vague idea of the kinds of things you've been eating typically?

I would amend that to include basic dry staples like rice, beans and whole grains.

Bronco, how about some of the following ideas for breakfast:

Oatmeal (not the kind that comes pre-loaded with sugar) with dried fruit, nuts and maple syrup

Whole grain bagel with Tofutti "cream cheese"

Peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole grain bread

Granola or Muesli (or any other cereal that's not supar sugary) with dried fruit and nuts

Bananas Elysian

I would also suggest visiting these threads for meal ideas:

The Inspiring Meals Showcase

Healthy Food Log

I would stick with the basics to make things a bit easier on yourself-beans,brown rice and other grains, vegetables. The 'accidentally vegan' stuff is nice every once and awhile but I wouldn't rely on it as a staple of your diet, not even for convenience' sake. You could get really ill eating this way.

If money is an issue, seek out cheaper produce-apples,carrots and potatoes

come to mind. There are tons of free recipes on veg web that don't call for weird, expensive ingredients...or just google 'simple vegan recipes'.

All I want is to give you some ideas. I can't tell you what you can make with the stuff you have commonly in your home unless I know what it is that is commonly in your home. Make sense? Of course I don't expect you to list everything in your pantry and fridge.

What types of produce does your family typically buy?

Do you have any stock of frozen/canned veggies?

How about rice, dried beans, flours, etc.?

Is any of this stuff easy for you to get?

I would assume if you can buy froot loops you can buy some produce. I do understand how hard it is to rely on someone else to help you with groceries BUT a vegan diet is easily the least expensive one for your parents to have to pay for. That's a plus.

As far as having time to cook, I homeschool three children. Many people on here work full time jobs. You MAKE time. You need to eat so cooking needs to be a priority. Do you have a library? You can find cookbooks at most libraries. People have already listed numerous vegan recipe sites. Your skills will get better with time but only if you practice them!!

You'll be surprised how much variety you can find in a vegan diet that doesn't include food that comes out of a box with Tucan Sam on it.

Mary

ETA: If you want to stay healthy, ON ANY DIET, you need to pay attention to what you're pushing into your mouth. Just a heads up. "Grab and go" eaters are rarely healthy.

Did you eat like this as a meat-eater? Always skipping, all three meals and only eating a tiny snack before bedtime? That's rediculous. Of course your hungry. Eat something. Every couple hours.

Lol. I love this thread. We've got the "overwhelm him with info" people and then K comes along and says "just eat".

We've got you surrounded Greg. If you want tons of info you've got it. If you want simple advice ("just eat") you've got it.
