hey all, i am new to vegetarianism. i had been researching the topic for a while and i decided to go all the way after finding out that meat consumption can be linked to cancer and heart disease. plus, i listen to a lot of peace punk like mdc, crass, conflict, and flux of pink indians and many of my friends are veggie or vegan so i know i can get support.

i had never really ate much meat before, i think it's kind of difficult to be a vegan at my college, but it shouldn't be hard to be a vegetarian. i thought i'd start posting here to remain strong enough to give up meat.

i really like indian, thai, and chinese food and there are many vegetarian options at these restaurants.

plus, i have to say after playing with a friend's cats and dogs i had a greater appreciation for the essential sentience of animals.

i would think it is cruel to keep eating meat....so therefore i am not going to anymore !

I'm an old-school punker myself, lol. nice to meet you! i agree that once you realize that you cannot tolerate the violence involved in meat eating, that you can never go back. My husband and I read some PETA literature at a punk rock show and went vegetarian on the spot. I had wanted to go vegetarian for environmental reasons for a long time, and having my husband's support was the motivation I needed. We're here for support too!

Hey there, and welcome. I had a similar experience myself when deciding to make the change to vegetarianism/veganism. It was the band Good Riddance and their song "Waste" that hooked me, and also discovering Buddhism. Hardcore punk and veganism seem to go hand in hand. Good luck and keep rockin' in out.
