i wake up famished, craving protein. i never even ate breakfast (made me kinda queasy) till a few yrs ago. now i just want and feel i need, protein. if i have carbs then, i feel too full again, a bit nauseaous. i eat carbs later in the day and complex ones. still, i wake up almost every night for the last 6-7 yrs, in the middle of the night craving carbs. i used to buy cookies just to wake up, eat one, but then i also have to brush again!<br><br>
it's funny cause that one cookie does me good, or piece of brad, or chocolate especially. anyone experience anything similar?

I crave carbs 24/7 so when I wake up, I want a big bowl of cereal, a toaster pastry or some toast. I can't stomach really heavy food early in the morning so most protein would be out until at least 10:00ish. I also don't like super sweet things early in the morning so I try to stay away from doughnuts and rolls.

asha, you maybe should post for a few days on the "what did you eat today" thread. Maybe someone there will see a flaw in your diet which you can correct to prevent the famished feeling you get in the morning and stop craving the late night snacks.<br><br><br><br>

I wake up craving banana, papaya, apples....so strong that I get up at 6:30 EVERY morning and dive into the fridge for fruits and wash down with bucket of cold light green tea.<br><br><br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wink3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=";)">

thanks for all the good advice, etc. when i get up i eat things like tofu from the night before, veggie sausages, or veggie chicken patties, etc. i also sometimes mix a protien shake. i also drink green tea made with brown rice, in the mornings as well. i really feel seriously famished when i wake up!<br><br>
even as a kid i couldn't do the carb breakfast. i'd feel nauseous over the smell of pancakes, and i wanted cereal after school, not in the a.m.<br><br>
i have seen shows about eating disorders where people get up in the middle of the night and raid the fridge. but they r in a trance-like state and eat anything. me, i just want, NEED, that one cookie!

The eating disorder you are talking about is either night eating or sleep eating. Night eating is when you suffer from lack of appetite during the day and hardly eat because of it. Then during the night, especially after dinner you start craving and then bingeing, sometimes even waking up in the night and eating because you crave so much and/or suffer from insomnia (night-hyperphagia?). Sleep eating is more like sleepwalking. You are in a trance like state when you pretty much empty the fridge at night (or at least binge, maybe not empty the fridge) and cannot remember the next day. People that have that sometimes try to padlock their cupboards to keep themselves form sleep eating.<br><br><br><br>
It doesn't sound like you have either of these, but maybe you should keep a food record and have a nutritionist check it out for any nutrient you could be defiecient in (especially protein or protein related, since that seems to be your major problem).
