I bought a protein and a meal replacement shakes from Naturade and there awful. It took all my will to down a 4oz. glass of the protein shake this morning. Do any of you use protein or meal replacement shakes? What ones? For those you who don't use them are you aware of a brand I can possibly try?

Why would one use these?

If you aim to loose weight there is only one thing that works (in the long run): start eating less.

Believe me: it works !

I have been eating less, a lot less! Though I lost it yesterday and ate chocolate chip bars.
But no worry first thing this morning I threw them all out along with all my chocolate and the rest of the soy ice cream I had. Why does chocolate has be so good?! Damn chocolate!!!! But with eating less I drink a lot more water so now I have to get some sort of diuretics so I don't put on water weight. But anywho I bought them because it's impossible to get a suitable amount of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and protein on my daily caloric intake. And I am working towards a fast so I am trying to cut down on solids to get use to it.

And a great way to start eating less is to replace meals with meal-shakes.

Apple: I just picked up "Zone Perfect All Natural Protein Powder" - it's a soy/whey blend. I got it at the local supermarket and it was the cheapest, at $13 for 39 servings. It's also the best I've tasted in the no-fat no-carb area. Each serving has 30 calories, and 7 grams of protein. That's not a TON of protein, but I drink it with fat-free milk, which adds 12g of protein, and a tablespoon of honey. It really tastes good!

I usually have one drink in the morning, with a bagel, and one at night on nights that I work out or go to the gym. Another tip there: focus on adjusting your eating schedule slowly to where you're eating 4 or five small meals per day, with the last being a no-fat no-carb meal no later than 8pm.

Good luck, bud.

Thanks max. I've been using the Slimfast but drinking it with Vanilla Silk. I think I'm getting way too much fat with the two combined. Plus, been excercising 1/2 hour a day. Maybe I'll switch to the Zone Perfect. Does it fill you up?

Apple: Chocolate is 8th deadly sin! Damn...Cadbury Eggs are right around the corner...I'm dealing with the V-Day candy too right now.. I swear. Quitting candy for me is way harder than quitting smoking, drinking, or eating flesh. Now, that says something about sugar, doesn't it? It's a damn drug...the other 'white powder'....

Ah, it's time like that when I use toothpaste. If it doesn't taste good why eat it? And if you use it enough you get really clean/white teeth. I'm serious. When I'm tempted by candy I brush my teeth so I don't eat it. If I try to it's horrible and the bad tastes lasts for about 20-30 minutes enough time for me to stop thinking about it.

But your at work. I don't know if you can brush your teeth at work. Maybe you can use mouth wash real fast while in the ladies room.

I have lots of tips on how one can loose weight, reduce appetite, and reduce daily caloric intake. I'm just afraid to post them.

Apple, keep drinking lots of water, but don't worry about gaining "water weight" . the water will do it's thing naturally and flush out any toxins. Diuretics are dangerous. The water that's in your system is there to do vital work, including supporting your metabolism. It nourishes your skin. It improves your digestion. You want more water in your system.

As for meal replacement shakes, try out different brands. I really like the Peaceful Planet brand. Very well balanced nutritionally, and a very aware company. and tasty!!!

add fresh or frozen fruit, juices, soy milk, spirulina, flax seeds, coconut, coffee... you name it! Yum YUUUUMMMM!!!!

need me some smoothie.....

yeah you beat me to it, i was gonna say the more water you drink the less you retain. water retention is caused by not enough water in the body, making it hold onto whatever little it has.

also diuretics can have bad side effects. my mom tried taking them a couple of times and had to stop when she started getting pains in her kidneys

drinking a lot of water is a great way to lose weight, it flushes out a lot of junk and it fills you up so you'll snack less.

as for protein shakes, try making fruit smoothies instead (just ice and frozen fruit) and add some protein powder to it. the stuff tastes awful by itself but mixed into a smoothie you'll barely notice it. and you did say you wanted to eat more fruit

hah Randy you beat me to it again

also a friend of mine lost a lot of weight by going for long walks when he felt like snacking. he'd walk to a coffeeshop like an hour away, grab a coffee, and walk back. he used to drink hot chocolate from the coffeeshop instead but realized how much fat and sugar was in it and started drinking coffee instead. he claims all the extra caffeine helped speed up his metabolism so he could lose weight faster.

not that i really recommend that since caffeine does more harm than good

Yes coffee is good. It's a natural diuretic. I'm going to buy some tonight along with tea (diuretic) because of the caffeine, I think. I'm drinking twice as much water I should - 128oz of water a day (yes I keep track). I should only drink around 64oz. a day so I know I'm picking up water weight.

Yeah, but too much water is not good for you! It carries out nutrients and vitamins that your body needs...most importantly salt. Without salt in your body you get very sick (an possibly die). Plus, all that work your organs are doing processing mega amounts of water probably isn't good either.

I tried Naturade before, but I was drinking the shakes to add calories to my diet, thinking it would help me gain some needed pounds. At first, it tasted all right, I just mixed it with cherries and it was like a Vanilla Cherry shake, but then as I kept drinking them I started noticing an after-taste, and pretty soon it was like drinking a glass of vomit. Now I have a whole can of that crap sitting in the cupboard.

yeah i think i have the same brand, i don't really remember. all i know is it doesn't mix with hot liquid and tastes awful by itself. i have a chocolate flavoured one though.

and shortly after i bought it i noticed the store took a black marker to every product by this brand and blacked out the little seal of approval thing on the label.

uh-oh

Don't remind me! I'm trying to lose some extra weight now as a pre-emptive measure

The Zone Perfect... well... it's hard to say on the "fill you up" tip. If a slimfast shake fills you up, then probably so will this stuff in soy milk. Drop a banana in, maybe?
