is it normal to go through phases where you are just not hungry, and nothing appeals to you? every couple of months that happens to me, and for like a week all i will eat is supper, and maybe a snack after school. I always get really freaked out when that happens. I'm scared that it could turn into anorexia, because I am sort of the type of person it would happen to, even though I am not obsessed with being skinny. I am vegan and eat really healthy, so the weeks when I am having problems eating I get a lot of nutrition, but I know not enough. Even when I eat normally I know i don't really take in enough calories. I am 15, 5'3, 117 lbs and get around 1200 calories a day. It seems to be okay for me though, because I always have lots of energy and I am always moving around.

Well, it could be a lot of things. It could be perfectly normal. I get like that sometimes. There will be a few days when I just don't ever feel really hungry... I mean I'll eat, but there's no real desire for food going on.

It could be related, to, ehm, which time of the month it is.

However, the fact that you only regularly eat 1200 calories is alarming. Maybe your metabolism is slowed down?

Might be something to ask a doctor about, not us.

Well, if you're vegan, 15 and only taking in 1200 calories, then you're not eating enough. That is why you don't feel like eating.

You must force yourself to get used to eating regular meals/snacks, even if it is only a slice of bread w/ peanut butter and a glass of fortitifed soy milk.

Your body is growing. Be kind to it.

It hits me like that too. Sometimes, food just doesn't appeal to me. The smell, sight, thought of eating, the desire to enjoy..... gone. It's like trying to get excited over watching paint dry. During those times, I try to keep eating because that's how my anorexia used to work me. No interest in food = no reason to eat. I know that if I continue on that line, I will eventually be right back in ED-land, trying to work my way out so when those times hit, I have to stop and tell myself that the feeling is temporary, my eating has to be permanent regardless of how I feel at the moment.

Eventually, the desire comes back and food and I are mates again....

veggie girlie, you might want to consider bulking up your diet a little. I mean 117 is ok, but how much lower do you want to go? This depends especially upon your height. Drink some avacado slushies.

That happens to me once in a while too.. I think it does have something to do with our womanly cycles. However you are still very young and you need to make sure you're giving your body plenty of nutirents to grow properly.

1200 calories a day is not enough considering around 2000 calories a day is generally considered as adequate. Don't neccesariy just eat more.. just make a conscious effort to eat more often throughout the day.
