<div class="quote-block">"The data clearly show that the majority of older teens and adults have already had sex before marriage, which calls into question the federal government's funding of abstinence-only-until-marriage programs for 12- to 29-year-olds," Finer said.</div>

Does having had sex preclude someone from being abstinent from now until they get married? Or was I just supposed to laugh at the stupid government without thinking?

Yes, we should organize a march in Washington. Since we're not using our share of free condoms and birth control, we're entitled to compensation in other ways.

When I first heard of this, I thought, "I want my money back!" I don't mind paying taxes for health care or snow plows, but even being an "outlier" myself, I really don't see the point in spending tax money in this way. We're ADULTS. We're supposed to be able to make these decisions (hopefully informed decisions, but we all make uninformed/stupid decisions, too), and then deal with whatever results from those decisions. That's what being an adult means.

The newly appointed guy in charge of federal funding for family planning says birth control is "demeaning to women."<br><br><br><br>
Also, there's loads of research that "abstinence-only" programs don't work, may even compound the problems (no education for use of birth control).

MissGarbo, some ways birth control can be used are demeaning to women. A SO who pressures a woman into using birth control she doesn't want is indeed demeaning. That's hardly the fault of birth control, though. The attitude problem would no doubt exist without it.

Are 'no glove, no love' campaigns demeaning towards men?

I'm wondering if you can clarify too, skylark. Do you mean being pressured into a certain choice (the man insists that the woman takes the pill, etc.), or do you mean pressured into using bc at all.<br><br><br><br>
The no-glove rule is about more than pregnancy though, too, dn.

Right, I'm talking about a woman being pressured into doing something she doesn't want to do, for reasons she may or may not embrace. Theoretically, if a woman and her SO had decided they wanted to procreate, and then later in the relationship he threatens to leave her if she doesn't use BC, that might not be right. But, like I said, it's not the BC's fault. Or he tries to get her to use a form of BC she doesn't want because the Pill gives her mood swings, and he thinks it should be all her responsibility and thus refuses to wear a condom, or whatever.<br><br><br><br>
Persuasion is different than manipulation. It's possible to use anything in a relationship against your partner, and that doesn't stop at BC.

"Absolutely not," Horn said. "The Bush administration does not believe the government should be regulating or stigmatizing the behavior of adults."<br><br><br><br>
apparently, it's OK to stigmatize youth...?<br><br><br><br>
My question is... WHAT THE HELL ARE WE STILL DOING WITH ABSTINENCE ONLY CAMPAIGNS?!? It's 2006, people.... SAFE SEX. Let's be realistic. If you practice safe, EMPOWERED sexual behavior, why would your marital status matter? Especially to the Govt.? The Govt. should NOT have a say in people's private lives. IMO.

When President Bush announced his five-year, $15 billion plan for AIDS relief, the administration endorsed the "ABC" approach: promoting Abstinence, Being faithful, and correct and consistent use of Condoms.
