is this legal? what a world what a world.

i just found out that our department has to help with the input with a new system this weekend. i normally, well at least i try to work about 8 to 5 mon thru fri. now get this.... i have to work till 8pm tonite (fri) then from 7 to 4 on sat and sunday. unacceptable. i deleted w/out really reading the email about this a several weeks ago since it was from a dept of no interest to me and to several contacts (thats what i get!) so i just found out this week about this and i had many things i needed and wanted to do this weekend. not to mention i start summer school up in a week, i want all the free time i can get. this is slave driving! aside from calling in on monday, im technically not supposed to have a free day till NXT friday. wtf.

now im trying to be positive about this and focus on the good of the overtime pay involved as im destitute but its just not happening.

That's too bad .......... I remember years ago on my days off from restaurant work getting called up some times out of the blue because they had a sudden large group and needed someone .......sigh ... it sucks when you think you had free time and then it's taken

I'm grateful for the job I have, even though I put in LOTS of extra hours, including some weekends (WITHOUT extra pay because I'm salaried). Plus, I have a second job! To re-hash what Muzicfan stated, there are many who are jobless (some with families to support), who would love to have your "problem". I'm sorry you had other plans for the weekend, but it was your responsibility to read your e-mail in the first place. I make it clear to my staff that they are accountable for the information sent to them, and ignoring a message does not relieve them of any responsibility. Times are tough, and sometimes you have to suck it up and do what you have to do.

Thats too bad. Those weeks where you work 14 days in a row are tough. Just try to visulize what you can do with that extra money you'll be earning. When I had those weeks, I'd stand there at work and think about what new piece of scuba equipment I could buy by working all those extra hours. I wouldn't nessisary buy it, but it just helps you get through the extra hours.

yup im really grateful for those overtime hours. they will help pay for the smashed windshield that greeted me when i went to my car from the stupid job i had to, that if i didnt have to do, i woudnt have a smashed windshield. insurance is so useless.

yeah thats why i dont work in a restaurant. not to mention i intentially came to this job, from an old one, with a two way understanding of my schedule being a certain way. maybe if i wasnt in school id be less of a crybaby but probably not. i only live once.

Ya got me 46 avacados - I thought you were serious! I've been around a lot of people lately who complain about everything, and when I read your post, I thought, "Not another one!". Sorry if I came across a little harshly - it was totally out of character for me.
