The duck hunting season is upon us in my state. Recently a protestor of the hunting was shot in the face by a 14-year old boy who was there to kill the helpless birds. One of my local newspapers is running an online poll but pro-hunters have rallied all their national and international forces and are leading the poll saying it "shouldn't" be banned.

Please vote 'Yes' in this poll, we need large numbers of votes to show our disgust of duck hunting.

Because we're asking people to embrace an ethic that seems alien to them at this current point in our species' development. We're asking people to legislate against something that they don't understand what the ethical problem with is, since many of them still pay other people to kill animals. That's why I'd personally focus my time and energy on non legislative outreach currently, especially reaching large numbers of young college age students with information about animal abuse, which doesn't require laws be changed.
