Today I went out for lunch and my grandma and I ordered this dish that didn't have any meat in it (you could get meat, but it was extra)...so the meal came and it had chicken in it! I was kind of bothered, but I didn't want to make a big deal of it and I was able to pick the chicken out but...I don't know. I feel kind of like I cheated even if I didn't eat any...I don't even know when the chicken was added into the meal, but it most likely was added after everything else was cooked.

Anyways, I hate having to just pick the meat out...and I was trying to avoid having to do it ^_^

I don't ever "pick it out."

If I order something and it comes out not the way I ordered it, I politely point out to the server that my order isn't correct and ask for what I ordered.

I've never had any problems at all with that.

I would've politely called the waiter/waitress over and asked them to correct the mistake. I know you're afraid of "making a scene", but if you're polite, it's up to everyone else not to create one (and if they do, it's not your fault. You didn't order chicken, right?).

I did tell the waiter that I didn't want/order the chicken and she said she wouldn't charge me for it, and then my grandma butted in and said it was "no problem". Normally I would have said something else, but we were with my dad's on again off again friend/girlfriend and I always feel really awkward around her...

It annoyed me but I just put up with it, but I definitely won't let it happen again...lesson learned.

(And some of you are pretty talented at making me feel like a horrible vegetarian.)

It is a drama to send it bak to have a whole new meal made just cause you dont want to pick out the chicken... I am almost vegan.... and if I got a salad or something bought out with chicken on it I would not sent it bak for the simple fact that I can pick it out beacuse ther are children and people out in the world dying of hunger and i cannot waste it just because of that.

I would take it off and give it to my partner or take it for the dogs..

Swaybe, you are not a bad vegetarian.

You are a good vegetarian who got put into a nasty situation.

I don't split dishes and I never go out with people I am not comfortable with so I can't say I feel your pain, but I know what it's like to get put in an awkward situation and feel the need to do things that you really don't want to do.

You handled it the best way you thought possible. None of us were there to evaluate the entire situation, you were. You did what you thought was necessary to keep everyone happy and cause minimal raucous.

I just think a lot of people are raucous kind of people. I know that if my friends and I do not get the service we believe we are entitled when we go out to eat, we are Hell's angels. We are raucous people and we will cause a scene.

You obviously aren't like that and you handled the situation how you felt like handling it. There's nothing wrong with that. It's not like you just said, "Screw it." and ate the chicken. You are no less of a vegetarian for being polite and picking the chicken out.

I ALWAYS STRESS NO chicken or NO meat or NO cheese etc....

I'm very blunt. I say, "No cheese. I'm vegan, I'm very picky, please make sure there is no cheese on it. Thank you."

[Cheese or whatever else ... chicken or meat sauce or whatever].

It's so rare that I have to send something back. The only wrong order I have gotten for months now was ranch instead of Italian. They just brought me Italian and one of my friends used the ranch for what he was eating.

I'm a fussy person.

You could always do what someone did for me once. He was ordering for me at a drive-through and next thing I know he's screaming at the speaker, "No cheese! She's allergic to cheese so if you put cheese on it and she eats it, she'll die!"

I found it pretty amusing.

I personaly don't eat out. (I work in the food industry... I know what happens in the kitchen and just can't stomach it)

BUT.. If I got the wrong order, I'd probably send it back. I guess its a personal choice like scraping cheese off pizza.
