there have been several conversations concerning PETA on here....
here is a post I started http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/s...ad.php?t=52454
I believe there are a few more
They're PETA.
PeTA does some good things and some bad things.
I had never heard of PeTA until well after I had become a vegetarian.
The bad things that PeTA does outweigh the good in terms of my even thinking of joining them or sending them any of my money.
However, they have contacted me and I have cooperated with them on particular projects that I considered worthwhile and constructive.
Much of their approach involves sexuality in such a way that (in my opinion) a reasonable woman could easily find it sexist and offensive. Since it would probably offend a majority of women, and since the majority of members of my EarthSave chapter are women, I just don't see any benefit to my group in any closer affiliation with PeTA, and no one in my group has asked for or suggested any such thing.
I mentioned this before...their hearts are in the right place, but we (vegans/vegetarians) already know most of the horric things happening to animals in slaughterhouses. The general public who already looks like at us like we are friken crazy becuase we eat a plant based diet, are totally turned off by PETA.Originally Posted by Tymps
Their heart is in the right place, but I think they go overboard. Sometimes I think their tactics alienate people more often than they change people's thinking. I think the average omni would come across a compaign or demonstration of there's and think "What's wrong with these people?" instead of "You know, maybe baby cows shouldn't be kept in tiny wood crates!"
kpickell, I tried looking it up but I couldn't find it. To me BSL means british sign language! what does it mean in this context?Originally Posted by kpickell
One thing I really like about PETA is that they definetely aren't in it for the money. Unlike most other similar organizations, their staff are paid moderate salaries. They also do not copyright any of their material and encourage people to copy and give away anything they produce.
They do do a lot of good things.
But, the bad outweighs the good for me (treatment of companion animals, support for BSL, misogynst campaigns, etc), so I don't financially support them any longer.
