So, what are your personal anthems?

personal anthems being those songs that you can really relate to - so much that they seem to have been written about you.. or that you practically could've written yourself!

I know i have quite a few.. but i can't remember most of them right now though.. but anyway.. here goes what i do remember!

"Welcome to the New South" by Less than Jake

"Peaceful Day" by Pennywise

At the time being i'm really relating to "Three's a Charm" by the Starting Line and "Dead on Arrival" by Fall Out Boy.. *sigh*

i'll post others as soon as I can think of them .. perhaps sharing lyrics or saying what the song is about ... but I don't feel like doing that right now

Right now, I'm really relating to "My Immortal" by Evanesence, and "Shame" by Stabbing Westward.

I'm hoping that changes soon, though. ^^;;

I have a few, depending on what type of mood I'm in.

Walk On by U2 is kind of my "life sucks, but don't let them get to you" song.

And love is not the easy thing

The only baggage you can bring...

And love is not the easy thing...

The only baggage you can bring

Is all that you can't leave behind

And if the darkness is to keep us apart

And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off

And if your glass heart should crack

And for a second you turn back

Oh no, be strong

Walk on, walk on

What you got, they can't steal it

No they can't even feel it

Walk on, walk on

Stay safe tonight...

You're packing a suitcase for a place none of us has been

A place that has to be believed to be seen

You could have flown away

A singing bird in an open cage

Who will only fly, only fly for freedom

Walk on, walk on

What you got they can't deny it

Can't sell it or buy it

Walk on, walk on

Stay safe tonight

And I know it aches

And your heart it breaks

And you can only take so much

Walk on, walk on

Home...hard to know what it is if you never had one

Home...I can't say where it is but I know I'm going home

That's where the heart is

I know it aches

How your heart it breaks

And you can only take so much

Walk on, walk on

Leave it behind

You've got to leave it behind

All that you fashion

All that you make

All that you build

All that you break

All that you measure

All that you steal

All this you can leave behind

All that you reason

All that you sense

All that you speak

All you dress up

All that you scheme...

That I Would be Good by Alanis Morisette is my "life sucks, but don't let yourself get to you" song.

that I would be good even if I did nothing

that I would be good even if I got the thumbs down

that I would be good if I got and stayed sick

that I would be good even if I gained ten pounds

that I would be fine even if I went bankrupt

that I would be good if I lost my hair and my youth

that I would be great if I was no longer queen

that I would be grand if I was not all knowing

that I would be loved even when I numb myself

that I would be good even when I am overwhelmed

that I would be loved even when I was fuming

that I would be good even if I was clingy

that I would be good even if I lost sanity

that I would be good

whether with or without you

There's more, but I think that's enough for now

Man... what a great tune.

I suppose some of mine would have to include:

Eighteen - Alice Cooper

Takin' Care of Business - BTO

Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie

Life's Been Good - Joe Walsh

Freebird - Lynyrd Skynrd

Anarchy in the USA - Motley Crue

And just about anything from RUSH

Wow... way too many more to list now that I think about it.

Edited to add: I do not think these songs all relate specifically to myself.. but are the type of songs that can be related through different periods of my life or of the lives of those pretty close to me. Thus, I feel each is appropriate.

Magic Man... good call.

AJ, I actually thought, and still think, Cyndi Lauper's Money Changes Everything is a pretty cool tune

I just realized two more... cannot believe I forgot them the first time. Both by The Who.

Won't get Fooled Again

Baba O'Riley (most folks know this one as "Teenage Wasteland")

I don't know if this one can be even be but in this category, but the song that I always felt somehow was a little about me was, -and is- , "Fox in the snow" by Belle and Sebastian.

Yup. Maybe this is better suited in the "song that is tear catalyst" thread....
