thanks for that, rowan, about the place in arkansas. i did a quick search, and i think i got it confused with another place. it freaked me out that they were breeding animals there, but i didn't come back to check the link. i know about riddle, but i didn't realize that these two places were related when i followed the link. that's frustrating.

and what's sad is that the man thinks he's doing a good thing.

i simply don't have the time for outreach right now. i'm preparing for my trip to new zealand and simply too busy. but, i am involved with the TN sanctuary via donations myself.
Hi,

I used to live right outside of Philly and am coming back out in September for my brother's wedding.I know everybody's gonna want to eat out someplace nice. Anybody know a kid friendly (or not) veg restaurant?
We'll be up in Pittsburgh soon and were wondering about some good veg places to eat? I've read about a couple: Zenith, Quiet Storm, Abay.

Any comments on these or additional suggestions?

Thanks,

T.
We are doing educational outreach at the Walker Bros. Circus shows tomorrow, Tuesday March 13 at 4:30 to 5:30 and 6:30 to 7:30. The circus is at the National Guard Armory in Plymouth Meeting, 1046 Belvoir Road. Please show up for the animals! Thank you.

ZENITH! Zenith Zenith Zenith! I cannot recommend it enough. It's a great restaurant. They have a loooong tea menu. And Sunday brunch is very, very nice. They have lots of yummy vegan cakes for dessert.
I suggest trying the Tofishy sandwich.

*sigh* I miss living in Pittsburgh.
Enjoy!

Why: Animals in factory farms suffer terribly, and pollution, deforestation, global warming, and resource depletion are rapidly destroying the planet.

Animals on a modern factory farm lead lives of unimaginable suffering and die cruel deaths before ending up on the dinner table. Intense competition drives farmers to value efficiency over natural desires. Animals are squeezed into ever smaller living quarters, even as new biotechnology is used to make animals grow bigger and produce more meat, milk or eggs. Lowering the cost per unit is the overriding goal.

Pumped up with hormones and drugs, dairy cows spend a few years in a concrete stall or filthy feed lot before they dry up and are sent to slaughter. Most calves born to dairy cows are quickly separated from their mothers, confined in tiny pens, and then killed for veal after only a few months of life. Chickens are crammed together in tiny cages and have their breaks clipped to prevent them from self-mutilating due to stress. Death is merciless and inevitable: a bolt gun or a knife ends a life spent in hell.

Thousands of people across the country are standing up for animals and the environment by adopting a vegan lifestyle. Vegans take personal responsibility for making the world a better place by giving up meat, dairy products, eggs, and other animal-derived items.

That simple choice has powerful consequences. Veganism saves animals from the horrors of the slaughterhouse, reduces pollution from factory farms, and preserves soybeans and grain--which would otherwise be fed to animals being raised for food--for the millions of malnourished people in our hungry world.

Anyone ever try this?? I live in south eastern PA so it wouldn't be too far from me. It's called Arnold's Way- it's a store and restaurant. I would love to try it, especially since it's an organic raw cafe as well as veg!!

Are You Interested?

In being part of a Natural/Organic Foods Co-op that sustains our local communities and farms while bringing the best quality healthy foods to your table at reasonable prices?

A Co-op is a group of people with the same idea who come together to achieve a goal. A Co-op is member run and owned. Our goal is one-stop-shopping, A Café, Bakery, and Organic/Natural Food Co-op under one roof!

We need people that are interested in making this happen.

Come with your ideas on Aug 27th at 6pm hosted by Balasias at 500 Chestnut St in Emmaus PA.

Will be in Philly for the first time this weekend to race in the Head of the Schuylkill! I hope to hit a couple of good veg places, and now have some ideas after reading this thread. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in City Center (1800 Market St); is anything in walking or easy-getting-to distance that would also please the omnis I'm going with? We might need to load carbs for that matter....
I'm from western PA and I don't remember how close this is to Center City, but the Reading Market is a lot of fun.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading_Terminal_Market

Its a ton of different little stores in the old station. There's more omni then veg*n food, but there's a lot of ethnic shops and you can get vegetarian and vegan cheesesteaks there.

Thanks for the Reading Terminal recommendation! We all loved it and I had a hard time picking from SO MANY CHOICES! I opted for the vegan cheesesteak since I was visiting Philly, after all. It was awesome!

Alas, our race was canceled due to weather, but the one time I got to pick where we ate I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
