I havent eaten yogurt in a few weeks, and my stomach is killing me. I don't know if they're related. Maybe my body misses meat, I'm eating too many veggies, too many veggies, or too much sweets and processed foods? I've always eaten those and never had stomach issues before. I'm so confused. Someone suggested menstrual cramps but I think I'd feel it somewhere lower?

When I because vegetarian my stomach hurt so much for about 2 weeks. It just needed to adjust. If it persists, however, I'd go to a doctor.

no, your body isn't missing meat. do you mean that you haven't eaten yogurt for two weeks, and then you did, which is why you have stomach pains, or just that you haven't eaten it for two weeks at all?

You're body is going to go through an adjustment period of time, esp if all of sudden you've upped your fiber intake drastically. Make sure you're drinking lots of water to help flush it all through.

You could take some acidophilus pills, to help get your gut flora back in check. That's not harmful at all.

I ate a lot of bread my first couple of weeks to deal with the acid and stomach issues.

I had some stomach ailments the first month after I went vegetarian. A few stomach pains here and there, but mostly gas. Whenever a person switches from animal products to not and vice versa there are some shifts in the body. I don't know if it's strict detox or something else. Some friends of mine go vegan for lent, and they always get really bad gas for a week after they start eating meat/dairy again.

There is probably a heavy-built Irishman somewhere, with broad shoulders and a red beard, whose name is Owen. And around the small town he lives in, he's known as a frightening man who gets into a fight over the slightest insinuation, and attacks people like a steamroller made flesh. But he's married to a woman working in a pub, and when it's only the two of us, they watch romantic dramas and Owen cries every time. And sometimes, when she has looked out of the window and made sure no one can hear them, she calls him Owie.

That's what I'm saying...if you haven't had any, you can still get the live cultures in pill form or at least check into soy yogurts too.....check and ask around at your local health store.

It was probably the probiotics in the yogurt that were helping your stomach. You can get probiotics without yogurt. Here are some with herbs that support digestion.

http://www.iherb.com/Rainbow-Light-P...aps/14590?at=0

What are you eating? what does a typical day of meals look like for you know?

vegetables and fruit have a lot of fiber compared to meat and dairy products, you need to drink water to comfortably digest fiber. be sure you are drinking more than enough water every single day.

as for "missing meat" there isn't anything in meat that cannot be obtained from plant and synthetic sources, your body isn't missing anything unless you are eating an unbalanced diet.

Didn't know that one. WHY don't they teach this stuff in school?!

Is that possibly why I normally have, er, stomach distress rather a lot? It's gone away recently, and I've been drinking loads of water recently...

Ya, fiber is a mystery to most people, its sad because it is crucial to a healthy digestive tract.

drinking lots of water is good for so many things, but digestion is the best benefit. people who dont drink enough and try to eat high fiber diets end up in distress because there is nothing to help move the fiber out, leading to constipation and cramping. its sad bc they think its the high fiber foods causing it, but its really just dehydration.

glad to help
