http://hundredpushups.com/

I really want to start doing this, anyone else going to join me? I'm fairly sucky at sports so I'll do the "girly" push ups where you rest on your knees but maybe once I'm finished I'll do it again with "real" push ups.

And for people who don't like push ups or can do them really well already there's other challenges like this one:

http://www.twohundredsitups.com/
http://www.twohundredsquats.com/
http://www.onefiftydips.com/
http://www.twentyfivepullups.com/
http://www.fiftypullups.com/

I just got turned on to this yesterday. I'm starting the program tomorrow, adding it to my regular workout routine. I downloaded the Android app to help stay on top of it. I'm actually excited to get started!

Also, the notion of "girlie" push ups is WAY outdated. Men or women can do modified pushup on their knees, or good form push ups; their own fitness level is the only determining factor. When I started my fitness program in January, I couldn't even do modified push ups from my knees - I was doing them against the wall. I'm now doing solid knee push ups, and can squeeze out about five standard push ups when I try... The only person you need to compare yourself to is yourself.

envy, we could send you a messenger daily to come and knock at your door and sing a song about doing your push ups!

WonderRandy, I know that, that's why I put " around the girly. It was intended in a sort-of ironic way. Most women do better push ups than me, I suppose! Anyhoo, I'm excited too, but I downloaded the little folding booklet (I love little paper things like that!) and use pushuplogger.com to keep track.

Started today! I'm doing the easy set, meaning 9 push ups in intervals plus my maximum, which turned out to be 4. 13 push ups in the morning, woohoo! Go me!

Ok, this is sounding more doable now...MAYBE I'll give it a try! I definitely need something other than just my morning walk routine.

I did the initial test: http://hundredpushups.com/test.html
I can do 20. The last few are tough. And I'm not sure I go down far enough.

Bodyweightculture.com has a nice pushup program as well called "100 push ups in 10 weeks." I like it because it also incorporates some pulling exercises, such as horizontal rows. Though this might not seem relevant for pushups, it hits muscles that are important for stabilizing while doing things like pushups, bunch press, etc. It's basically a progressive routine that includes various types of push ups, basic isometrics, and pulling exercises on the push up off days to quickly build the number of push ups you can do.

To view it on bodyweightculture.com though you do have to create an account and log in.

Thanks nomad888 - for now I'm more than occupied with the push ups thing but I'm sure others will find that link useful

I can't do any push ups! Not even easy ones!

I've never been able to, even now I'm pretty strong. I guess my strength is very localised because I really can't do push ups at all

Ones against the wall are too easy (not sure I'm doing them right).

Did my 16 push ups for day 2. It was pretty hard because I'm still sore from day 1 and from doing outdoors work (cutting clear blackberry thickets) everyday on top of it, but not as impossible as I thought it would be. Getting there!

20

Had a chest workout today though, so I might not be able to do it tomorrow, but treat myself to an extra rest day instead.

I'm trying to increase the number of pushups I can do as well. Although I won't follow this plan I'll just keep doing them until I can do more and more lol. As of now, the max I've been able to do at one time is 20.

I can't do real pushups, due to bumps in my wrists that prevent them from bending back all the way. But looking at the site, they've got "knuckle" pushups and "bench" pushups listed as options, so maybe I'll try it using one of those. I've done the "bench" variety before, but it just seems kinda wimpy. Better than nothing, I suppose. Maybe I'll try the knuckle thing and see if that's doable, just with lots of padding on the floor, like a pillow or something, to avoid hurting my knuckles.

Fromper, no shame in doing a modified version! I do push-ups from my knees and I always put a pillow under my knees. (As I told my work mates, I may be a wimp but I'm a persistent wimp ) Maybe a yoga mat would work? That way you wouldn't run into the danger of slipping?

I just tried the bare knuckle push ups with a pillow under my hand. Even with the padding to prevent my knuckles from getting scraped, it was still very hard on my fingers. I was able to do 13 of them for my "initial test" step, but I don't know if I'd want to do that again, because of the pressure on my fingers. So I think I'll probably try either the bench push ups, or maybe just "bad form" push ups on the floor, since I can't bend my wrists back far enough for normal "good form" push ups.
