Okay, I don't have kids.

I don't want 'em.

I don't like 'em.

Okay, well, I pretend not to like them. In truth some of them are okay and I don't mind when they're around so that I'm not the most immature one in the room for a change.

There are many reasons for this:

I hate responsibility.

I like spending money on me.

I don't want jam-hands all over my big screen TV.

Changing a diaper would make me puke.

You name it. The list goes on.

Trust me, the world will be better off without my genes in the pool.

Maybe I'll change my mind if the entire world ever cleans up its act, which is the main reason. So not too likely then.

But I digress.

I have many omni friends who are not so inclined. I call them breeders.

And I'll be damned if they don't seem to be going out of there way lately to have kids. I had one string of emails last week. Another one started this week. I'm flush with babies, flush I say!!

And it makes me mad. Maybe that's irrational, but when I hear people are having babies I just get angry.

My wife keeps telling me I should be happy for people. But I'm not. Not even a little.

And here's why: The main reason I am such an a**hole about it is because I see it as just another meat eating, milk drinker to continue humanity's legacy of animal suffering.

Does anyone else feel this way?

If not, can you recommend a good therapist?

You can be as serious or stupid as you want in this thread.

Cheers!

Thank God you've come to this board, TJ. Your posts always make us laugh......or at the very least mildly smirk.

That's not something that has ever crossed my mind before, but now that it has, I'm pretty angry (thanks, like I needed another thing to piss me off ). It does bother me when I see my friends babies being fed the same old crappy American diet. The best was when one of them was young (the baby, not the friend) and my friend would say "he really likes the fruit and vegetables, but we're having a hard time getting him to eat meat." Also, my nephew has pretty much grown up on the worst diet ever. Should a 2 year old really be eating fast food? And they can't quite figure out why he is always constipated (he's 5 now). It was always disturbing to me that when he was really young, they would feed him french fries and the like. Yeah, that's definitely the best nourishment for a growing baby......

it's funny how the people that shouldn't be having kids usually do.

but not all parents are feeding their kids a meat/milk/eggs diet. some people (myself included) are feeding their children vegan diets.

But it's ok if veg*ns have a busload of kids who will grow up to drive buses of their own, live in big ol' houses with the AC turned to 75 degrees, and shopping shopping shopping at the mall, as long as they are veg*n.

Yeah.

Heh, I agree with that. Love your sense of humor. Even when I disagree with you, such as in this thread. I agree with your wife.

We set the AC at 52 degrees in my house. I got tired of the changing Chicago seasons, so I just decided to make it winter all the time.

oh my god that must be expensive.

It is, but I have an oil rig in the back yard, so I make a lot of money selling oil to offset the cost of keeping my home so cold. It's a vicious circle really.

TJ,

Your ideas are refreshingly honest and to the point. I can admire that, however there is a hint of irrational enthusiasm for your point of view. Ten years ago, no one would ever believe that I would become a vegeterian. We are all a result of our own experiences or what we have heard others experience. Some of your omni friends may become vegeterians in the future while others will continue their omni lifestyles. What ever they choose is ok. We are not all at the same level of consciousness. You can either choose to be angry at that or accept it. Just lead by example and keep an open mind. If your friends see you as a positive role model they will want to emulate you.

I've definitely seen it that way before, TJ. It's not even just the vegetarian thing. It's mediocrity overall, the fact that a helluva lot of those kids will never make a positive difference, won't ever have major aspirations, and will just go on to become breeders themselves, generation after generation after generation of people whose only goal is to have kids because that's the only thing they can think to do with their lives. That's not to say that people shouldn't have kids -- I think that it's a very noble thing to try to bring up a new person to contribute positive things to the world... The depressing thought is that so many new people don't live up to their potential.

But I digress, and if I go on I will piss people off.

ETA: This rant has not been about childbearing. It has been about the things that are wrong with the world and are going unfixed because no one goes and changes them. It definitely didn't come out that way, but it was stream of consciousness.

I was just ranting. Rants never come out the way you mean them.

All right, commercial break on Rockstar Supernova...

To add to your point, and it's not 100% applicable, but my mom feeds my niece, as a snack or dessert, a bowl of Cool Whip.

Also my sister once told me that my niece didn't want to eat meat so she had to hide it in some food. The hell???

Anyway, glad I gave you something to be pissed off about. Now you have something in common with my wife.

God Zayra sucks. Off to watch the train wreck.

I was reading on a site where some troll logged on and complained that vegans and vegetarians sucked becuase they make their children adopt their strict diets. Yeah. Shame on you for having healthy children!

And omnis don't make their children adopt their diets! Oh, I tells ya, the ironing is delicious.

What is your point point point? And what's with the bus obsession? That's kind of weird.

I have no veg*n friends so I have no frame of reference for how a baby announcement from them would make me feel. Probably I would be just, like, super-happy that they were doing their part for overpopulation.

What is 75 in celcius? Help a Canadian brothah out y'all.

Part of the reason I keep her around is because I need someone to show me how to be a better person. I'm just wired to be cantankerous and antisocial. Maybe even a little misanthropic. I don't like that my friends' happiness gets me angry; I wish I could help that it does. Anyway. I hope some day she'll rub off on me.
