As of Feb 1, as some of you may know (from my previous post), I started working out, doing yoga, and became an instant vegetarian (cold turkey-excuse the pun). Last Saturday morning, I woke up with HORRIBLE pain in the upper abdomen area. I thought, well, maybe its just gas related, but I actually thought I was having a heart attack. Now, I'm not a large girl, but could stand to lose 20-25 lbs (I know-so chubby). Every time I go to the Dr, my blood pressure is perfect, etc (Dr said it is a very strong sounding heart). So I thought I would give it a couple days. Well, I had these attacks off and on through Monday. I went to a walk-in clinic, waited for hours (ugh), that Dr thinks its a hiatal hernia and gave me Prilosec, to see if it would help, and told me to see my primary physician to get x-rays, etc. Well, It is now Thursday, I still have symptoms (but not as bad, but still wake me up in the night). I woke up this morning and just feel like I am being dragged through the ringer, and a little worse as the day goes on. I understand that this hernia could have been pre-existing, and by working out it could make itself known (and it did). But, upon waking, I have chills, coughing, nasal drainage (to make me cough), and feel slightly feverish. I eat lots of fruits & veggies, grains & legumes, and drink lots of water every day. Here I thought I was getting healthier, but instead, I am getting sick. It will be Dr. day for me tomorrow. Oh, and I am just not having BM like I used to. Once every day, but nothing worth sitting down for. Ugh.
Anyone else go through getting sick before beginning to be healthy? I just feel aweful, but I will not give up being a vegetarian, I love being one too much.
It is unlikely that something this severe would happen just because you stopped eating meat. It is probably just a terrible coincidence. I hope you figure it out and feel better soon!

I don't think that anyone on forums can actually tell what is wrong with you, go to the doctor! Also, it may not be connected to vegetarianism at all.

I agree with the others go to your doctor if its so bad and not eating me is not going to cause these problems. There are gasteral illinesses going around right now its probley that or your body still adjusting to your new system of dieting.

That is not your vegan diet.

When someone goes Vegan you should feel AMAZING! I made a drastic change when I switched from omni to vegan and I felt better then ever within a week.

Write down what you eat in a day. Did you introduce new foods that you could potentially be allergic too? Soy Allergy is a fairly promentant one.

It kind've sounds like you have the flu.

I agree with everyone here it might not be veg*n related and you should def consult with your physician.

My theory is that you're experiencing "Meat" withdrawals. You have become addicted to meat so now that you are not consuming any, you're body is reacting in a negative way. Maybe.

Definitely go see a doctor!! I became a vegetarian cold turkey too (not the easiest thing to do by the way ), but I experienced nothing like what you described. You should get yourself checked out.

It sounds like you're sick. Vegetarianism doesn't come with germs. You need to see your doctor.
