I'm trying to find some health food stores in my neighborhood but they can be expensive. What are the best NYC health food stores? I live in Astoria which makes it difficult. Ideas?

Do you drive?

I shop at Linda's Kitchen in Kew Gardens

Queens Health Emporium in Flushing

There are a lot of great places around Queens and Manhattan. Though I know Astoria well i really don't know any good Health Food Stores there.
I've been to 3 in Manhattan: Life Time, Healthy Pleasures, and Integral Yoga (which doesn't sell meat ). I think all of them are good, but they're all expensive. I wonder if there is such a thing as an inexpensive health food store somewhere?
Rich: no I don't drive but I've found decent grains in the Greek grocers near my apartment. Pricey though.

Healthy Pleasures is fabulous for bulk grains- not too expensive. Their granola is too die for. Their produce, yes it's organic and looks marvelous, is very expensive. Lifethyme is another great place; reasonably priced. How about Garden of Eden? Strawberry Fields? Those places?

I agree with Ruthie- if it's supposed to be good for you and the environment, don't make it so expensive!
Try going to Fairway on 72nd and Broadway next time you make to the Upper Westside in Manhattan. Their produce selection will blow you away. A couple of years ago they opened a health food store on the second story. It's a bit less expensive than Healthy Pleasures and Whole foods. I can't remember the name of the place but on 82nd and Broadway, it's a health food store recently opened. It has wonderful vegan prepared foods, cakes and cookies, that go for a lot less then what you would pay else where.
