This was a great article!

I think it should be a sticky in the "new to vegetarianism" forum.

Eh ... Our work web filter has no sense of humour apparently:

Quote:

Access has been denied because:

Tru-View has categorised this page as Violence

And:

Quote:

The attempted access has been automatically recorded and this record may be used to identify you and/or the machine you are using. Where necessary, this and other Internet access records may be used to support disciplinary action.

I'm not too worried since this happens at least once a week, and I've been in the same job for 5 years without any complaints against me, but it would be nice if links such as this one were posted with a NSFW warning. Just saying. (I'll probably add one to the thread title now.)

Huh, that's weird. It's really not a NSFW link, unless your work filters the word "ass" I guess, and even Veggieboards doesn't do that. I can't think of anything in it that would count as "Violence" that's for sure

No idea, since I can't see the page, I just know that it *is*.

Your filter is wonky then, there is no nsfw content on that site.

Maybe. I will investigate it when I get the opportunity.

LOL... filing away a few of those answers for the next opportunity. I'm sure the chance will come up soon.

Surprised the page is getting filtered, but I haven't had to deal with web filters often and the ones I did really didn't filter much. I personally didn't find anything there to be NSFW, except maybe the repeated use of the word ass.

This is great! There's some awesome info in here too.

If youre still convinced that plants belong in the same ethical grouping as animals (and people), consider this: all of the animals you eat EAT PLANTS and lots of them. In fact, it takes 5-10 times more plants to produce an animal-based diet than a plant-based one.

I totally didn't know that!

Assessing the Long-term Impacts of Refrigerator Crisper Confinement on the Emotional Development of the Common Eggplant.

That's just golden.

Love this link, thanks for posting!

Obviously Indian Summers' filter is a very proud omnivore. He should try to convert it.

Funny article! I especially liked "Wow, I would never have pegged you for a plant rights activist. And a botanist, bioethicist, and plant psychologist to boot."

Also, I wanted to draw attention to this fantastic comment:

Quote:

Billy May 17, 2011 at 10:05 pm #
On the sentient plant argument, I’ve been an organic gardener since I was 4 years old. My parents didn’t call it organic back then but my dad made compost and we picked the bugs off the plants instead of using DDT. I go way back. When you pick a leaf of lettuce what happens? It grows back. When you lop a leg off a lamb what happens? It suffers immeasurable pain, struggles and bleats to save itself, bleeds to death and dies.

The fruit and veggies we eat are membranes protecting seeds. They are designed to come off a tomato plant or apple tree. We pull carrots at their ripest. What happens if you leave them an extra week or two? They’re dead. Every plant part I’ve consumed has been happy to give it up. No animal I’ve ever seen in any slaughter vid has marched cheerfully toward getting their tracheas ripped out, pelts melted off with hot oil, heads nail-hammered, throats slit to get strung up, half-conscious, and butchered alive.

Awesome! I wish this guy had been a part of our plant sentience debate on iLoveTalk

"There’s nothing like a highly implausible hypothetical to defend a habit that has nothing to do with survival, and everything to do with lazy, ignorant, and arbitrary personal taste." I love it
