Parents house yesterday. Father starts mentioning food, starts naming all the stuff in the house there is that my daughter and I can eat, after the list of sticks of celery and such, (might have an apple in there somewhere) he mentions that he could cut some grass for us..

So I suggested that we run on down to the morgue, purchase some meat well on the way to decay, bring it home and slap it on the grill to kill the bacterias and e-coli and worms and maggots that are most likely crawling in it...

He didnt see the humor in me making fun of his food choices..

Oh well, he should get over it.

I wouldn't feel too bad either. If he's going to make jabs at your diet, he should be able to take some of the stuff he dishes out.

My sister likes to point at overgrown lawns sometimes and say, "Hey, Rose. Dinner." So one time when we drove by a dead squirrel on the road, I flipped it on her. She laughed, though.

Yeah, I get the same ****. I guess it's different for them because, when they criticize our diet, they're not poking fun at our morality code as well. When we dish it back, we're pointing out that they're failing morally. No one likes to be reminded they're eating dead things, when they're unwilling to change their habits.

Exactly. We're also a minority. If the roles were switched and 97% were veg and 3% were omni the squirrel jokes would be common but the grass jokes wouldnt be seen as funny the way omnis currently see dead squirrel jokes

It it were switched, and we were the 3% meat eaters, we would have to do it in secrecy or risk being tried for animal cruelty

I think that was a good response. You held your own.

I like that! I might have to use it when people start making grass=food jokes in the future.

That response was gold! He may be old, but I agree with those who say that if he can dish it he should be able to take it. Some older people I am willing to give a break, but if they're going to be snarky then why can't we snark back? My nanna is in her eighties and is constantly giving me a hard time, but she's "with it" enough to take a jab at me, so why shouldn't I fight back? Of course, everyone then tries to make me feel guilty for arguing with an old woman. Can't win! She asked my boyfriend if he was religious (he isn't) but I told her that being vegan is our religion. I don't think she knew what to do with that one...

Make sure you do it while they are eating.
its also fun when in the grocery store with my wife, as we walk past the meat section,, to comment on how it reminds me of the forensics lab during an autopsy of a murder victim. The looks you get can really be great.

On one side of my family, whenever my other half and I go to stay with them, the standard greeting for us when we first arrive is always " ah, here come da grass eaters!" We've learnt to embrace it
