"'Mabus' then will soon die, there will come<br>
Of people and beasts a horrible rout:<br>
Then suddenly one will see vengeance,<br>
Hundred, hand, thirst, hunger when the comet will run."<br><br>
I've been fascinated by Nostradamus and his prophecies throughout my life, and starting to think that this particular prophecy is relevant in light of Bin Ladin's death. While I don't believe most prophecies on the internet, the fact that Nostradamus was able to predict Hitler, who he referred to as "Hister", does hold some water.<br><br>
Add to that that Comet Elenin, which was discovered last December, is on its way towards Earth but not on a collision course. It will become visible this August, and be the most visible on October 16th of this year.

Nostradamus is a load of malarkey.<br><br>
His prophecies are all pretty easily debunkable, including the whole Hister thing.<br><br>
EDIT - did I seriously just use the word "malarkey?"

Congratulations on your use of the word "malarkey"! Here is a pair of old-man slippers, a musty bathrobe, and a bottle of Seagram's No. 7.

Malarkey - LOL!<br><br>
Prophecies, when they're real ones that is, work like a weather forecast. They aren't set in stone. A forecast won't predict whether or not you get wet, rather if rain is forecast and you choose to be outside than you will definitely get wet. That said, if it does happen to be true and it's my time to go then it's my time to go. This alone however is far from being enough to hide myself in a bomb shelter and wait for the apocalypse!

I actually believe in psychics. I know, you think I'm crazy. And I am, but that's irrelevant. And most of the "psychics" I've met are fakes, but I really do buy in to the whole Nostradamus thing.

My feelings exactly. What I think the prophecy is saying is that Bin Ladin's death will trigger a war. What kind of war or on what scale is unclear. It also points to famine, and we are currently at breaking point when it comes to feeding ourselves. Of course if more people went veg*n then we wouldn't have such a problem on the hunger front! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

Prophecy or not, there will be retaliation. The fact that Americans are publicly rejoicing isn't making it any better. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/no.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

I agree. Celebrating something like this can only provoke some people into inciting revenge, it's a very dangerous game some people are playing <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/sad.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":(">

A good example of psychic powers in action. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJQBljC5RIo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJQBljC5RIo</a>

True, and I agree that 99.5 percent of psychics are bogus. I did go to a psychic years ago who was much like what Randi described. However, between predicting names of future dictators and the story about grave robbers during the French Revolution who broke into Nostradamus's grave over 200 years after his death and discovered a plaque around his neck with the exact date written on it, I get a strong feeling that he's in the minority who are genuine. Unfortunately James Randi can't really challenge dead psychics, so we'll never know for sure.

I wish I knew what it would take to make Earth more attractive to these comets. I mean is Earth really the crappy yard sale of the universe, and only deserves a drive by ?

Too bad we never make the prediction/event connection until after said event occurs...

Well, if Bin Ladin is in fact Mabus, then best for us to brace ourselves for some serious sh** to hit the fan in the form of war and famine.

The name Nostradamus can be interpreted as 'nostra damus', 'of our own we give'. Ok, ok, obscure Latin punning, but what my point is that Nostradamus always seems correct <i>after</i> the fact and next to never before. Might this have something to do with the fact that the centuries are extremely difficult to translate, given that they have words from several languages mixed together, and thus any translation needs must be very vague? Not to mention that even in the original the centuries are vague enough.

How vague is "Hister" though? I haven't met a living psychic who I think is genuine, however his prophecies ring true way more than anything else I've read by far, except maybe Edgar Cayce. Plus if the particular verse in the original post is true, the only thing that has happened so far is "Mabus" dying.

Hister is not vague, it being the Latin name for the Danube - and Danube is likely what Nostradamus meant. As always, it was interpreted as 'Hitler' only after the fact.<br><br>
As for the Mabus verse:<br>
Mabus then will soon die, there will come<br>
Of people and beasts a horrible rout:<br>
Then suddenly one will see vengeance,<br>
Hundred, hand, thirst, hunger when the comet will run.<br><br>
or in the original:<br>
Mabus plus tost alors mourra, viendra,<br>
De gens & bestes vn horrible defaite:<br>
Puis tout Ã* coup la vengeance on verra,<br>
Cent, main, faim quand courra la comete.<br><br>
Interestingly enough, whoever translated the verse added the word 'thirst' as it is not in the original language.<br><br>
This is very very vague indeed, and there is no clue for who or what Nostradamus might have meant by 'Mabus'. As there is roughly one visible comet per year, it also does not give any kind of timeline to work on either.

That is interesting what you mentioned about the thirst part, I've studied a little bit of French (soif=thirst) so I could understand the original French text you posted. As I said though, its good to look at this as a proverbial weather forecast. Also, the Danube runs through a large part of the area occupied by the Nazis, so it could work on that level too.
