So im writing out my check to Greenpeace today and realize theyre stating theyre not tax deductible because they work to change laws? doesnt peta do that too? how if its a donation to a non profit place is that not a tax write off? Ill still write it off for my business like all the rest i donate too<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/huh.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">

You might be donating money to them, but you are not allowed to write it off as a donation for tax-purposes. That's all there is to it.<br><br><br><br>
There are rules that non-profits have to adhere to in order to keep their non-profit status. For the most part they have to remain non-partisan and not endorse any particular candidates or try to sway an election. Greenpeace chooses not to do that, so they can not be a non-profit organization. PETA chooses to remain non-partisan and instead pushes particular items rather than encouraging people to vote a certain way.
