What's so intolerant of posting it here?

But yes, I'm intolerant to certain matters. I see no use in debating wether animals should be treated with respect or not. Authoritarian, yes, fascist, no. Call me what you want, it won't stick.

encouraging people to sit around and all "laugh at the stupid meat eaters" is not extending tolerance. it is not saying "i'll take in what you have to say and instead of stooping to your name calling grade three kind of level, i'll extend my knowledge in a kind way in the hopes that you will also extend the same courtesy to me and we'll have an intelligent, insightful and educating discussion"

so, if you choose to keep to the low level, be my guest. i agree, those are the types of people i choose not to associate with.

If they had anything worth while to listen to I wouldn't mind...I'm all ears. Sounds like most of them were angry veg*n bashers IMO.

Check it out...this one is intelligent, no??

You guys are sick. Because of people like you, less people are eating meat and more of it is being wasted and thrown out. I eat meat, because I really care about the animals

Or the next guy...what insite!

but almost all that are killed by humans suffer much less than those killed by other animals

Or how about this little gem

You all eat veggies. That makes you canibals. I almost laughed at that comment until I also read this one: You do not eat turkey, therefore you are not thankful.

This comment is so far from intelligent, I can't describe it..

Veggies are for homos, only stupid people who can`t catch living animals and crippled people do not eat meat. SAVE A TREE EAT A BEAVER!!!!!!"

And then there's a historian in the group..

No one bitched about how their meat was treated 20 years ago, they realized that it was a fact of life that animals have to die....it wasn't until the mid part of the 1980's that the morality patrol of the animal rights activists came into the place and tried to skew the public's view of meat.

This one simply got confused and forgot what point she was trying to make or what side of the fence she was on...

Recent studies have shown that in eskimo\\inuit populations, heart disease, cancer, and other problems were virtually unknown until their diet shifted from one consisting almost solely of meat and fat to one containing more grains and vegetables.

Which leads me to ask you VP: Which of these folks is supposed to help me to "extend my knowledge"?? Please point out the one that we (meaning veg*ns) are supposed to have "an insightful and intelligent discussion" with?? Which or their statements and or beliefs do you agree with out of curiosity??

I never said, or thought, that everyone who eats meat think like that. It's just poking fun at certain people who post on certain sites, not people in general. BUT if you have to get all serious..

There are certain things which are, IMO, not up for discussion.

Was Hitler right in killing jews? - No. No room for discussion.

Is capitalism destroying the planet and corrupting humanity? - Yes. No room for discussion.

Is racism wrong? - Yes. No room for discussion.

Do you have a right to kill animals(or have them killed for you more likely) for your own selfish desires? - No. No room for discussion.

My oh so humble opinions, of course...

Heck yeah, I'm SO intolerant. I think democracy is serious problem. It's certainly not the worst alternative, but it's a stagnation of progress at best. But I don't deny myself some hypocrisy by using and abusing democracy.

VP,

Unfortunately, I have heard many of these same arguments in real life, and though some of them were extended in jest, many of them weren't. How would you suggest that I respond to the person who honestly thinks the critical argument against vegetarianism is "Which does A-1 sauce taste better on: steak or lettuce? It tastes better on steak, therefore, vegetarianism is stupid."

Just out of curiousity (I'm going to hate myself for asking this), what political system do you prefer?

skylark- i don't think a statement like that requires a response. just like the ones listed in the original post don't require a response.

i never said i didn't think what they were saying was stupid- but just because i think what someone says is stupid doesn't mean i believe that we should make fun of them.

maybe i'm assuming something that is not here, or maybe i'm reading into this too far- sorry if i am.... but i have met some of the most openminded, tolerant, forgiving, and kind people on this board and i guess i'm just surprised to see this sort of "making fun" post. i expect that of some of the other sites i sometimes visit, but not this one.

Well... No system we have seen... A socialist transitional system.

I'm a communist and I think I.V. Stalin was a great socialist leader. Many things were not so good, but lies abound.

Although I support green policies, I do see the necessity in his mass-industrialization, for any goal, to be able to stand up to the might of the western imperialists. A-bombs are not fought with sticks and stones. There needs to be a socialist alternative to US imperialism. There are none.

China is an authoritarian, state-capitalist nation.

Ditto with Cuba and Vietnam.

North Korea is a fascist state, based on the ultra-nationalist Juche theory of Kim Il-Sung.

BTW... Why are you going to hate yourself for this?

I believe several European countries have done quite well implementing a Democratic-Socialist government.

Denmark, Sweden, and do a lesser degree, France (there's more but I don't know them off hand), have all implemented Socialism to one degree or another and do very nicely for themselves.

Martin,

Tame is probably going to feel the need to start a debate with you on this, and he doesn't want to start looking for this thread in the Compost Heap.

So...are you against democracy? Or are you just in favor of socialism? They are not mutually exclusive.

So...Stalin was a great leader? Purges, mass starvations, and all?

I'll let my part in this conversation drop at this point, as I am hopeful that your kind will be relegated to the dustbin of history in another decade or so.
